    I have a mutation in BRAC I.
I have a mutation in BRAC I. It exactly matches my mother who has BRCA I and 2. She has stage 3c ovarian cancer never had breast cancer. I somehow have Stage Ia lung cancer. Go figure. I had my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in May. dx with lung tumor in August. I guess I was just gonna get it somewhere. Happy thanksgiving to you

    BRCA1 Positive
I was diagnosed in May 08 with stage 1 breast cancer, triple negative and the BRCA1 mutation. I spent the summer going thru aggressive chemo and this past Tuesday had my ovaries and tubes removed. Dec 1st I'm having a bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I opted for implants. Feeling a bit anxious and ready to get it over with all at the same time. I'm hoping next year will be a better year. I've been positive through it all but lately the positive attitude seems to be getting tired. I feel like the people around me don't really understand what I'm going through and are getting tired of me being unable to do all the things I did before. Ready for it to be over.

    testing
I am not BRAC1 or 2 positive but I did have the testing done. I had a history of multiple biospies and finally an atypica hyperplasia in my right breast. I started tamoxafin nearly 3 years ago when I was 45. My mother had breast cancer when she was 47 so I thought thes testing would be valuable for me. I approached my mother about having it done first since she had already been diagnosed. What a horrible rift that created between my mother and me. She was totally against it and felt that I would be "doomed with the information" and would unnecesarily scare my teenage daughter. It got ugly but what I really think was the issue was she didn't want to feel responsible for "giving" me something. I have a younger sister who is the queen of denial and clearly wanted no information. I know this sounds strange and I'm really not a morbid person but somehow I always felt that I was going to have to deal with this. One and a half years ago I got the testing on my own without telling my mother. It was negative. This past May after being on the tamaxafin for nearly 3 years,I was diagnosed DCIS in the right breast. Even though my BRACA 1-2 testing was negative, I simply couldn't endure any more biopsies so I had a double mastectomy in June. I decided to tell my mother that I had the testing done. I guess my assumptions were right as she just cried and said "you mean I didn't give this to you." I don't think cancer is something you "give to someone" just like someone can't make the whole thing go away. What I hope to have learned is to not let fear paralyze us. There is still so much I'm anxious about but I know I won't hide from it.

    Ms Dawn,

I must say that I am very touched by your situation and the way you handled it all.

I am still researching a few things,I put my head in a hole til I got another call from the heriditary cancer center a week or so ago.

OmG I haven't been on in some time,I am still trying to navigate through here, lol.
My mind is running at a wicked speed right now I am not thinking to straight so I'll be back when I can settle a few things in my mind.

    Trying to keep it Lite,
    Sue

    BRACA1 Triple Negative
    Hi,

I'm Courtney and I have had BRACA1 Triple Negative for 3 years. I've gone through a double mascetomy and numerous radiation and chemo treatments. Unfortunately, this type of cancer is very aggressive. There are no cures at this point. I'm tired of feeling so bad. I've stopped all treatment except radition to try to allow me to walk a little. As a result of stopping treatment, the cancer has spread and I expect to have maybe a month or two left. I wish there was a cure. I'll pray for everyone from heaven soon.
