so this is why i was confused at first

My mom was diagnosed with cancer..i should really find out which..if it's ovarian or cervical..i just know that she had a lot of bleeding beforehand...her period lasted for two months..this is why i was alarmed too and annoyed of the doctors because it seems she even had to call them to get results..it seemed they're not that concerned with their patients..i felt that maybe if they only told her sooner, we can do more preventive measures..but anyway, my question is after her hystorectomy, will she still need chemotherapy? if so is it usually part of the health insurance HMO? and do you know what could happen to her during the process? is she automatically going to loose her hair? it's stage one so im hoping that she will get through it just fine so will she be needing chemo then? pls tell me anything you know about it. i really just need to get ourselves prepared. thank you.

    Dear, we have to know if it is ovarian or cervical and maybe that won't be known until surgery. FIRST, you have to see that she has a gynocologist/oncologist and not just a surgeon do this surgery. The Stage will be determined at surgery, but a gyn/onc surgeon has a better rate of survival because of his more specific knowledge. How do they know it is Stage I? After surgery it will be determined if chemo is needed. Most of us have at least 4 doses of Taxol+Carboplatin after surgery. Yes, she will lose some hair, and maybe all of it but let me tell you HAIR does not equal LIFE. Forget that worry. Every health insurance pay differently so I can't answer that. I am on Medicare + a supplement and it has covered everything so far. Get as many facts as you can and come back with questions. Big difference in cervical and ovarian cancers.

    thank you so much..i know that im very confused at this point..but i guess i just have to wait for that surgery to know what's really going on..i got my mom's doctor's number so i can give her a call to know more about the situation..i asked my mom today and she said the doctor mentioned that it started in her ovary..i guess there was a cyst there but the cancer is found in the uterus? im not sure about everything at this moment but hopefully when give the doctor a call i will be more enlightened..i know the hair thing is not the most important..but honestly i dont think my mom really thinks that she's gonna go through chemo. she said this is the last surgery..and i said what if they need to do something else? and she said let's pls pray that i dont have to...and this breaks my heart because what if she does? how is she going to handle it? im afraid but of course i will remain strong for her..at least in front of her..thanks again for your feedback.

    Sorry to hear your Mom, AND you, are going through this. But Saundra gave much wonderful advice. So, I won't repeat, except to say don't take on so much worry right now. Most of us do worry about the 'unknowns'. That's natural. But it's better to spend your time with your Mom doing 'non-cancer' things. Once we're diagnosed, it becomes a part of our life, no doubt about it. But don't let it 'become her life' or identity. In time you will deal with things that need to be dealt with. In the meantime, life life and everything else will be there for you to deal with when you need to.

    thank you so much for your support. that's exactly what im trying to do is just kind of live life and not worry so much..it's really hard i admit but i have to try...and i think my mom is trying to live normally too so im not gonna make that harder for her..thanks again for giving me encouragement. it's nice to know someone understands.
