Well, I posted earlier that I finished my 12 rounds of folfox chemo. Went to the doctor yesterday, got my return to work release so I am back to my job and my friends there on Monday the 3rd. My port comes out on the 12th, I have scans sometime in December and I don't see my oncologist until January 2009! Keep pinching myself that this is real. I told them I saw them just about every week and now 3 holidays will go by without them. Won't miss the resasons I was there but I will miss them. They are so supportive. Well, lets hope and pray the nasty beast stays away, for now I am happy to get back to my life and a "new" normal. I feel like I finally reached the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Thanks for sharing it with me. This board is great!!!

    Congrats to you for coming through a terrible time..May I ask you some questions because I am just about to start folfox for 12 rounds also...I am very nervous and scared of the unknown

    I know how you feel about missing the nurses and others at Oncology. For 6 months, you were on this schedule. You went, they took care of you whenever you needed them. Now, you won't have that (I'm not say you won't have anyone to take care of you because they will anytime). It's just the schedule that won't be happening. It was strange to me, at first, but then I realized, all the professional people are wanting you to carry on without them. They were able to help you and are so happy for you.

    To this day (1 year after chemo) I still go to Oncology dept and say hi and take little gifts, food, etc. OF course, I still see them every 4-6 months, too.

    Glad you can go back to work as well. You just DID GOOD!! Keep your energy for moving forward.

    I know you are relieved to have the 12 behind you! I always say to my oncology people when i leave at the end of treatment rounds, not that I don't like you, but thank GOD i won't be seeing you guys for a while! Naked happy dance!

    Congratulations on the end of chemo! You're right--you're going to miss your regular medical team; mine are super people, too. But it's wonderful that you don't HAVE to see them regularly any more. I still stop in with goodies for my team every once in a while. Enjoy your new "normal", but first do a HAPPY NAKED DANCE!!!

    Congratulations of finishing treatment
    I don't want to throw a wet blanket on things, but if you feel a little anxiety, after you are done, join the rest of us. It is very normal and goes away with time. I hope you never have to revisit this disease.

    Congrats on all the good news!!!

    Don't drop into your 'new' normal too quickly....remember to rest up...your body has been through alot. Isn't it grand to have such a faithful, loyal old friend (your body), who will go into battle with you???

    I know what you mean when you say you will miss your oncology nurses. They are truly special people! Good luck to you and enjoy your "normal life" again!

    Julie44, what ever you want to ask, go ahead. I was scared and sick at the beginning. It got better as we went along because for every side effect they gave me a treatment. Communication to your oncology staff is huge. There were many days that are a blurr. Stayed in bed for 1-2 days, slept felt lousy, but I got through it and many on this site have, and you will too. Stay positive. I often wondered if it was worth it and if I'd get through and yes to both questions. Good luck to you.
