leg cramps with oxaliplatin?

Anyone experience leg cramps with oxaliplatin? I had an oxaliplatin infusion yesterday and I'm experiencing very sore calf muscles and calf cramps -- feels like I did a 50 mile hike (but I didn't). Called my onc. He hadn't experienced this before, but I just found a few references to this in an online search. I trust it is one of those acute symtoms that will fade in a few days (like some of the other more common oxi symptoms - jaw spasm, etc. Yes I have those too). But I'm wondering if this will get worse with later infusion....

    Yes I had terrible leg cramps. My Onc said that is normal with Oxaliplatin. He told me to take calcuim supplements and it helped. I would massage it and that help. Check with your doctor about the calcuim supplement it can't hurt and they are alway pushing for us to get more calcuim. I hope this helps.

    Hi Tara,

    Yes..I had muscle spasms in the calf (sore). Also had muscle spasm in my hands. When I would use the mouse (on the computer) and take my hand off of it, my hand would stay cupped for a few seconds...Real wierd...And when I would brush my teeth, my mouth would stay in the "smile" postion for a few second. That was too wierd!.

    I also had all kinds of other symptoms (including the cold sensations). Unfortunately for me, I think I had all the symptoms you could have with Oxil. It even hurt to cry, just for a few seconds when that first tear came out. We are all different, though. You may not have all the rest. IT would last for a few days after treatment. Always the last week, before going back in, it was better.

    I was only on Oxil for 4 treatments then had to go to Camptosar.

    Ha..the only nice thing was that my finger nails grew really nice! hehehe

    How long are your transfusions? I do know that when they made the transfusion go in slower, it help just a little bit. I'd be there for 5-6 hours.

    Let us know how you are doing.

    My thoughts are with you. Next week will be 1 year that I've been off of chemo...but I sure can remember how I felt during that time! Hang in there, kido. It works!

    I did have leg cramps sometimes and not at other times,it will get better.

    Magnesium for leg cramps
    I had terrible leg cramps after my first round of chemo - my onc gave me a Rx for Magnesium and they went away and have stayed away.
