problem with drain

I realize you aren't doctors, but maybe someone can give me some nonofficial advice. I had my mastectomy on Sept. 18, and the drain was still in, but going down to 40cc. Well, this morning I fell down my stairs by accident. I did not injure myself (I slid on my back) except for a small bruise on my back, but now I noticed that I am draining more and what is draining is more red colored. I feel really discouraged because the drain was about to be pulled. I didn't call my doctor because the doctor is really far away and I knew they'd just tell me to come in. I have an appt. to see my plastic surgeon next Tuesday, but this Friday I'm supposed to see my oncologist and I figure I'll ask him about it then. I am not in pain or injured, I'm just worried about the drain. As I said, it was not dislodged, just seems to be draining more and the color is darker. By the way, I had a lat flap plastic surgery and th bruise from the fall was to my back, so maybe that has something to do with what is happening with the drain. Can anyone please advise? I'm a little worried. Ohilly

    Ohilly: Sorry to hear you
Ohilly: Sorry to hear you fell, I am thinking that it may be related to the fall. When we hurt ourselves and develop a hematoma (bruising) it is usually small capillaries that may have ruptured and it causes us to form a black and blue. Because you have the drain in place, it could be that it is draining the small amount of blood caused by the broken capillaries instead of staying under the skin and causing the black and blue. If the discharge is bright red and does not stop, then I would call the doctor. Hoping all is well. Hugs, Lili
