Left wondering a bit
Well, I called the oncology clinic today to get my CEA results. All the nurses were busy, so I left a message to call me on my cell phone (I was taking care of the grandkids at my daughter's house). I waited and waited and got no response. When I got home (after office hours), there was a message on the answering machine saying that the results were good, pretty much what they were last time. Now I wonder if it's gone up a teensy or if it's right where it was before or what. I've stayed exactly the same in all my post-surgery checks, so I'm hoping it didn't go up at all. I see the doctor next Tuesday, so I'm going to get the actual number then. Also want to get my CEA count at diagnosis. I didn't know enough then to ask about that.
Thanks for all the good thoughts!

GAAAAAHHHHH! Like you aren't anxious enough, they have to call a number you CLEARLY weren't at to leave an ambiguous message about your CEA so you STILL have to wait another week, or risk playing telephone tag again and getting ANOTHER ambiguous message on your machine! It will be fine, let us know when you get the numbers.

Gail... although they left an ambiguous message, at least it sounds like GOOD NEWS to me! They left the message that the results were good, which is excellent! Hahaha... it's too bad that whoever is calling to leave the message, has been given permission to leave the message, that they don't say "Gail, your CEA results came back good. This time they are 2.2, so we are very pleased with that." Then you would know. What is with it that these people who are reading the results then leaving a message for the patient don't already know that the majority of patients know very well what the readings mean and what are good results for themselves vs someone else? Would it have hurt to have left the readings whether the patient understood the figures or not? If they think by leaving them, that might provoke another phone call from the patient asking what the numbers mean... do they not realize by not leaving the numbers, that might provoke the patient to call to say, "Ok, so you say they are good... but what are they? Numbers, I want numbers!"
Do keep us posted on how your appt. with the doctor goes next Tuesday

Whew!
So I couldn't wait until the appointment. I called and said that I like to keep track of the numbers and could I please have the actual number. There was just something about the way the message was stated that made it sound like it could possibly have risen a bit, and I wanted to KNOW. I got a real person this time, and she said that it was just the same as last time, .5, which is marvelous. I feel so much better.
Wish I could just relax already, but something about going in that office just puts me in a crazy mood for a couple of days. Now I get to go back on Tuesday and see what my doctor has to say! He's a very nice man, sort of looks like Don Imus. *L*
Thanks for all the support. I know, I know, I should NOT worry. So many of you have so much more to worry about. Just the nature of this beast, I guess.
Prayers for everyone!
