Girlie Question
I have stage 4 colon cancer also in lymph nodes, I am getting ready for surgery in a few weeks, then more chemo. My question is for the ladies... I have been off chemo (folfuri 5)
for 5 weeks, last month and this month I have skipped my period, to be on the safe side I took a pregnancy test which came back negative, has anyone else skipped periods???

You should talk to your oncologist about this.
It is my understanding that chemo has a profound effect on fertility. And if you were to get pregnant during treatment there can be a really profound effect of the fetus. I assume you are using birth control. Please talk to your onocologist. Pregnancy is probably very risky at this time.

My first chemo treatment a
My first chemo treatment a year ago (Folfox) was when I had my last period. I did six months of Folfox. I wondered if my period would come back, but it hasn't & it's actually been 13 months now, which means true menopause (I'm just 42). I have, however, heard that it can come back in some women, so I wouldn't go without birthcontrol until time has passed and you know for sure. I recently had my primary care doctor send me for hormonal testing & my bloodwork did verify that I'm in menopause. If you're not sure, I'd definitely take a pregnancy test, then be careful & use birth control from here on.
Best wishes-

Periods back with a vengeance!
I did nine rounds of Folfox last year and my periods stopped completely (I am 49). I hoped that was that, but a couple of months after finishing chemo they came back with a vengeance! In fact today I had an ultrasound to check out my ovaries and uterus, but I'm glad to say that everything looked fine (apart from for fibroids, which I've had for ages).
Good luck and best wishes

I myself had a hysterectomy
I myself had a hysterectomy at 38 but my friend is treating for breast cancer and she has not had her period since she started chemo, well recently it started and she was actually hemoraging and had to go to the er. The doctor said that chemo can stop your cycle and that hers had built up and then when it did come on it let loose. So be careful and maybe check with your doctor, maybe they can do an ultrasound and see if the uterous lining is thickening but not shedding. Good luck to you.0 -
Hi there, i am 35 and have
Hi there, i am 35 and have just finsihed 6 months of chemotherapy. I have been on the pill for the whole time (and before) as the doctor thought this would help protect my ovaries. My periods continued as per normal during treatment, and now I have been off treatment for 1 month, I had my first period (heavy!). So looks like fertility ok???0 -
Girlie question
My periods stopped once I started chemo. My OB/GYN told me that they might not come back. (I was 44 when I began chemo.) Unfortunately, the periods reappeared about 6 months after I completed chemo. Prior to being diagnosed, I was on the pill to regulate my periods (I've also had a tubal ligation.) Once I began chemo, my OB/GYN told me I wouldn't need to be on the pill, because the chemo would cause me to be sterile, so I stopped taking the pill.0 -
Fertility and chemo
Hi,
My periods stop a little bit after I started chemo. They have come back but I think I'm premenepausal (sp?). I would say talk to your onc about the fertility issue. He might send you to an OB/GYN. I was 42 when dx and already had my tubes tied so was hoping for no more cycle. Oh well. I would say continue on the pill until you find out though. Tell us what they say since I'm sure there are others that would like to know.

You need a second opinion on that onemk1117 said:Girlie question

I may be wrong but I don't think that was a correct 100% diagnosis.....I would have another OB/GYN tell you the same thing before you end up raising another baby, unless of course you want one. Just my opinion though.....0
