I miss my chat room friends! I have had quite the ordeal this past week! I went to have a port put in and ended up having my carotid artery punctured. My surgeon was great, put me in a step down ICU overnight and everyone watched me like a hawk for whatever signs they were watching for. I went home Friday and have been laying low this weekend. I am supposed to start chemo this Thursday without the port. Surgeon told me that he couldnt get it in the shoulder cuz he couldnt get a good vein. He then went for the jugular vein, got the first port in realized it was defective (it was cracked)he pulled it out and while he was inserting the second port into the vein, i 'woke up' and started coughing so instead of inserting it into the jugular it went into the carotid. I don't think he was happy with the ansethesiologist though. I wont get the port put in until near the end of my first round of chemo. He sees me next Friday to check my neck and check the fluid collecting under my arm post lymph node dissection/mastectomy. Guess I'll see what is in store for Thursday!! Miss everyone in chat and hope to see you all again soon:) MJ from San Antonio TX!

Aw thanks RE! All hugs welcome this week. I am going back to work this morning to see how I do, my neck is still sore, but manageable with a few pain meds to help out! Have a good Monday! MJ0 -
OUCH!
MJ~ My goodness, Sister~ you have had a time of it! I too had a rough time with the port insertion; turns out I am "anatomically off" by a few millimeters...who knew? LOL!! I did not have my carotid knicked, but woke up from over 2 HOURS in surgery with a neck swollen as big as my thigh!
I can imagine how much you missed chat; thank God for the boards, huh??? I hope you feel better sooner than soon, and to that end I am sending you homemade Cyber-Chicken Soup! :-)
Hugs, and Happy Healing,

WOW!!! So glad you are ok, I am also glad I read this after I had my port put in. I am sore but it was put in on September 16, so I am sore because my skin had to be cut and it is now healing so you know swollen tissue, etc., but nothing like your ordeal. Anyway I am glad you are healing and hopefully they get it in with no problems the second time around. I was supposed to have my first dose of chemo last Thursday but had to reschedule it because the Onc said no dose as long as my drain from the lymph nodes was still in. Well, no more excuses, the drain came out today so Thursday I tangle with the "red devil". First of 4 meetings. I plan on kicking her butt! It may take longer each time but.... Anyway good luck next time and I am sure you'll appreciate the port once they get it in. Take care,0 -
