Dream Interpretation

I wanted to share with you all this dream I had a couple of weeks ago. It still with me. I can't seem to shake it -- it affected me so. To give you some background, things have been a bit difficult lately . . . just the normal life ups and downs and I've been feeling overwhelmed. So, with that in mind, here is the dream . . .
I am stranded in the middle of the ocean. Just flat, dark water on all sides of me and as far as you can see. I am worried about how I'm going to have the strength to swim to land. I don't even see any land around to swim to.
Then, a few yards away, I see this huge, white whale. It's several stories high and it's REALLY white -- albino like, in fact. I don't see its eyes or face, so it's just this faceless, white glob of mass to me. Almost grotesque. (Please note that after giving this thought and analysis, I realized that it actually looked very similar to a mammoth breast!)
I have three choices at this point: (1) I can drown; (2) I can try to swim, which isn't likely because I have zero energy; or (3) I can attempt to jump on the whale and have it take me to land. I decide on option 3 although I'm thinking that there's no way I'll be able to tame this huge beast to take me where I need to go. But I try. I have nothing to lose at this point.
So, I somehow manage to jump on and climb up this whale. The skin is slippery wet, so climbing is a challenge, but I manage to heave myself on top of it. Surprisingly, it doesn't throw me off or move.
Then the process of getting the whale to move in the direction that I want it to begins. It almost feels like riding a horse; pulling the reins in the direction that you want it to move and kicking your legs around it to get it to move. All along I'm worried that I'm going to agitate the whale and it will throw me off.
But I get the feel for it and, to my amazement, the whale starts moving -- gliding really -- and we take off over the water. And it's amazing. We're gliding so fast, effortless, and I have this incredible sense of freedom and empowerment. The wind blowing cool on my face, the water is so clear and crisp, and the whale is gentle and easy to ride. In fact, I enjoy myself so much, I don't even go back to land when I see it; I just continue to ride this glorious whale.
I know there's a positive message in this dream, but what are your thoughts? I'm really interested in how you all interpret it.
Have a fabulous Father's Day!

I am no dream 'guru' but sounds to me as if your psyche is telling you to tackle the beast (cancer?) because you really have no other reasonable option and then you find yourself in CONTROL! Amazing. And even able to enjoy the ride...which is an added bonus.
As for not getting off when you see the shore, well that part baffles me, but maybe you know in your inner being that the time to disembark has not come yet. Or maybe you will ride the beast to the very end, which is a victory in itself the way I see it.0 -
I think Zahalene's interpretation is the same as mine. As far as not stopping on land when you see it, here's a possibility: When we are pre-diagnosis, or newly diagnosed, we are scared and only see 2 options...make cancer go away (back to dry land) or be killed by it (drown). As we move along our journey as survivors, we feel more in control and become accustomed to our new condition (climb up on the whale and learn to ride)...we cannot make cancer go away totally...cannot go back where we were before mentally (back to dry land)...but we can learn to live as our new selves (a whale rider).
It may not be right, but that's my first impression.
Very thought-provoking, thanks for sharing. seof0 -
I think it is quite simple, actually. That "breast", though no longer attached to your body is still saving you life!!! You never expected and indeed never wanted to be in this vast body of over your head, life-threatening water, ( cancer) but in order to get out safely you had to find a way to shore. Had you not paid attention to your surroundings, you very likely would have drown. Thankfully, you found something detached , and the very fact that it was separate from you became the very thing which saved your life.
This wasn't a nightmare at all~ but a dream with a happy ending~ you made it to shore. Battered, bruised, wet and cold perhaps, but so damned thankful to be ALIVE!!!
Hugs,

Thanks for a new image kbc. After watching the "Finding Nemo" movie I decided to ride the current like the sea turtles do. On a mission but enjoying the ride on the way there.
I like the others interpretations and so far this is how i try to live my life today. Some days aren't so pleasant but that's life.
Awesome dream and thanks for sharing it.0 -
I think your dream is about optimism. Its scary to be hopeful, but it sure does feel good. The scariest thing about optimism is its unsubstantiality. Because feeling optimistic is different than knowing everything will be okay. Knowing is, well.. knowing. Dreaming that you are optimistic with the certainty of that big whale - its all the feel good that we should all have when awake, but sometimes can't.
So why did you dream it? Maybe you needed to delight in it and maybe it is closer than ever before. Go ahead, be optimistic, Kim.

drea,
Hi:
I find your dream incredibly beautiful and interesting. The comments that others wrote were beautiful too and profound. Here's what I got from your dream in addition to what others saw. The ocean, made of salt water, is very healing. the flat, dark water, to me, signifies calm. There was a point where you describe a sense of hopelessness/helplessness, but then a white whale, which could signify your spiritual self, appears and you struggle hard to choose it's help/path, but you do, becoming no longer helpless/hopeless. You end up pleased and joyous with what seems to be your spiritual connection with the whale, your very survival.
I learned a type of dream interpretation that can allow you, the dreamer, to get a gut feeling for all aspects of the dream. After all, every item in our dreams represent parts of our psyche. So, try this, read this dream back to yourself and after each noun, adjective verb and adverb say the words, "Part/s of me." Doing this often triggers an "Ah-Ha" experience which gives you the answer to your questions about what the dream means.
When I was first diagnosed and just prior to surgery I had a dream about a black bear at my door that needed a drink. I knew, in my gut, the black bear was my tumor.

my dream
I had this dream while on chemo before I had surgery.
I was on a wall but the wall didn’t have straight sides. They were sloped and curved, not flat. I saw an image of my right breast with the biopsy scar. There were people walking around on this wall with knives. I decided I had to get out of there. I looked down in the yard and my dog was laying there chewing on a bone. I decided she would be OK, so I got down off the wall. I slid like on a slide. There was a group of women there dressed alike. They were leaving, so I decided to get in line and go out with them. One of them pushed me ahead of her to make me less noticeable. When we got outside it was dark. She told me to go across the street to the Ferris wheel, that I could hide there and be safe.
I thought this was my inner self wanting to escape surgery.
I had a friend who told me water represented knowledge.0
