Hi friends -

I just wanted to tell you that I took Bonnie's advice and did a little something to spread the news about ovarian cancer. We had our annual support staff training this past Tuesday and Wednesday and after hearing that there were so many new people on the board and so many of our dear friends that were having troubles, well I requested to be put on the agenda and they said yes. I made up an 8 page hand out and spoke for 15 minutes before a group of 48 women and 5 men (the guys loved it! lol)

I told them that if each of them shared the information with just one other person that it would mean about 100 women would now have some knowledge of what to look for and when to go in to get checked if they were experiencing any of the symptoms. I gave out some statistics, talked about the chronic disease issue, gave a little bit of my own story and thanked them all for everything they did for me while I was away.

It was a wonderful response, lots of questions, hugs and encouragement. And I did it for me and to honor all of the wonderful people on this website support group who have been so helpful to me this past year.

May we find a cure for this thing yet. My best to you all.
Kris

I admire you!! It's great to
I admire you!! It's great to have had an opportunity to stand up and raise awareness of the risk factors and signs and symptoms of this disease. I do agree the women and men on this website are great.I'm praying that a cure comes to us soon.
    Hugs

    Thank You
Thanks Kris! Thats great what you did. With mine I just wanted to check to see if I was going through premenopause and Yea I was but also found my stage 3 cancer. I had no pain or anything other then normal period bloating and tired somewhat. Two years ago I saw on TV that they were trying to get an exact ovarian count test and the female gynecologist said it takes awhile for the government to okay it which has happened yet. The CA125 is all we go right now and other things can cause it to be higher but I think they should at least take it when you go for a female check, it might save us this grief. Thanks for listening also.
    Prayers to all

    first where are you from
That would be wonderful Karalynn :-) First do you have a state or local ovarian cancer group? That is always a good place to inquire as they may have things going on or ideas for you. Next, because we are rural MN and very outstate, I just started by writting awareness letter and sending it to the Letter's to the Editor section of a couple local papers. Now I send to 8-10 papers every year.

Hope that helps you out, good luck in helping raise awareness. bonnie

    thank you
i am from florida. the treasure coast area, and i dont have any idea if there is a state or local ovarian cancer group, but i'm going to start looking into finding out! all i've done so far is write an email to the american cancer society, and get their local office address and phone number. i'm very new to all of this, and a little overwhelmed, but my fiance and i are extremely interested in getting as involved as we can! it seems like people dont know much about ovarian cancer, the symptoms, the tests to ask their doctors for, or anything, and we would like to do anything we can to change that! i am lucky enough to be a survivor of this (though it may not be gone yet, this will not get me down!) and i want to do everything i can to thank god for blessing me. i will not lay down and let this cancer be a waste, i want it to be a good thing! anyway, thank you thank you thank you for your help!

    spread the news
I am taking upon myself to spread the news about this horrible disease. I am in the process of gathering a little info from others, facts from internet, and my own story. I live in a small, close knit community and I hope to get speaking engagements at some of the service organizations in my area. I am adamant about letting others know how scary and deadly this disease can be. Wish me luck. Prayers to all. Carol

Hey Carol, thought that ocna may be helpful in mission to educate others. Not sure if you have their link or not. http://www.ovariancancer.org/ Hugs bonnie

Here is another site you can search by state also to see what they have in your area.
