Breast Pain-New Here
I start radiation Sept. 3rd, and i'm really nervous about that. They say you get fatigue, I'm always so tired as it is because of my fibroidmyalia and osteoarthritis. It seems since I was diagnosed with this ugly thing, i've been feeling even more tired. I don't know.
Well if anyone might know when this pain goes away, I would appreciate some feed back.
Hoping everyone is feeling better and May God Bless us all!!!!!!

fatigue issue
janny, I can't address your pain issues as I had very different types of surgery, but the fatigue issue is almost universal among the sisters (and our brother too) here. I am sure you will get lots of feedback.
You said 'it seems I have been feeling more tired....I don't know.' Please don't ever question any symptom you are having during this process. Tell your doctor everything and gripe, gripe, gripe until your issue gets the attention it deserves. Because there are things that can be done. A lot of the fatigue management is up to us to do for ourselves, but our doctors need to know about it.
This is time to be kind to yourself, let the standard of 100% efficiency 100% of the time go by the wayside for now, and ask for help, help, help. In big and small ways. Whatever it takes to make your life manageable. You will recover much faster and more completely if you cut yourself some slack before things get out of hand.

Pinging Pains
Janny, I had some pain and a burning sensation after my lumpectomy and again when I finished 33 rads June 26th. I still have some "pinging and stabbing" pains inside my breast along with a burning sensation on my breast. At first it seemed constant, but now it just happens maybe once a day - which is really saying something. I suspect that within the next few weeks, it will be gone completely. Hang in there. I want to say thank you for your answers,
now i wonder all the time why people tell me..NOW IS YOUR TINE, DO WHAT YOU WANT. Unless I was going to die, i don't understand why i am told that. then this whole thing about radiation and medication for five years is kind of freken me out. even though i had lumpectomies, everytime i look at my breast i get so so sad. has anyone had reconstruction? and if so, does that hurt too?0 -
Good News
Hey,
I have had reconstruction but this was after a double mastectomy with cancer in both sides. Due to some issues, I have had 3 surgeries which is most unlikely. I love the "new" look and to be honest, it is much like my other ones. I have not had the nipple replacement but am extremely please with both the look and the feel. Even my husband tells me that if he didn't know better, they feel like "me". To have reconstruction is a personal decision but for me, I love it. I know what you mean when you look every day in the mirror. The scar wasn't totally awful but I missed the old "me" and the look always reminded me of the "adventure" I had been through. I feel better about myself and feel more comfortable when I am naked or with my hubby. Putting on a swim suit was great although I would love to have lost some weight, my new ones are great. You might want to ask your breast surgeon for a good plastic surgeon and just go in for a consult. Ask to see pictures and see if they can connect you with someone near you that you can ask that has been through this. I talked with a woman just last week that was about to go through my procedure and I even offered if she wanted to "take a peek". I highly suggest not researching pictures on the internet because it was frightening for me and was not anything what I went through. Take care, Angela0 -

janny, I think people are trying to tell you that this is a time in your life when you need to practice putting yourself first. That is hard for most women to do.
But now that I am older and have been caring for my parents for over 12 years, I have FINALLY figured out that I can't do a good job unless I take care of myself too. So take this time to pamper yourself, cut some slack wherever you can, ask for help, just be a tad selfish. You can get back to the 'everybody else comes first' syndrome later.
As for the recon, I did not have any so can't speak to that, but I did have rads and tamoxifen for 7 years. Rads was a breeze - some fatigue and 'sunburn', but hey no biggie. And the meds for 7 years is probably a big part of why I am still here. It is doable and you can do it. God bless.0 -
Breast pain
Hi Janny
It's only been 6 weeks since your surgery. You are probably still healing. Yes the pain will go away. I had a lumpectomy and nodes removed. Removing the nodes hurt more than the lumpectomy.
I had 6 weeks of rads. I worked every day after the treatment. I felt good and got along great with the treatments.
I had reconstruction on the left breast and reduction on the right breast one year after rads. (They make you wait that long.) The surgery was worse than the lumpectomy just to be honest. Recovery was much longer. I healed good and I love the results. Would I do it all over again? (the reconstruction) Yes, I would.0 -

I just want to agree with Angela about pictures on the web. They show lots of pics. of women who have had recons. right after surgery using skin from other parts of the body that is more tanned than the breast. Looks like a patchwork quilt! I am anticipating my recon with implants in a few months and I am very encouraged from reading, almost without exception, happy reports from women who have had it done. love, Joyce0 -
radiation
hi there sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's been awhile and i hope all of you are doing as well as can be expected.
today i went for the first radiation appointment where they placed the markers and set (i guess) it's called a mold for the treatments which will be starting next wednesday for 6 1/2 weeks. i'm glad treatment is finally here, but for some reason i feel alittle worried about the cancer returning. i'm sure we all go through this, if it's not one thing it's another.
well i just wanted to say hello and let you all know my prayers and blessings are for each and everyone of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you for being here and for being so wonderful. sometimes i feel so alone. (okay, i guess that's another subject) :-)
hope to hear from anyone soon.0 -

We all know what it is like to feel alone. You are not alone in that! Please write when you feel alone. You do not always need to be up-beat. Just being you is wonderful. And you can talk about as many subjects as you want! :-) Joyce0 -
