Change in cancer type?

Hi,
I am new here. Just dx in June. Having 2nd surgery next Monday because a margain came back negative. I have had a biospy which said I had high grade invasion ductual carsomia but after my lumectomy it came back being inflatrating lobular carsomia. This is weird to me. Has this happened to anyone else. I have confidence in my docs. Plus I am still trying to figure out my actual dx in a concise manner. I belive I am Stage I-tumor size under 2cm, no lump nodes involved, stage III for cell aggression (not sure how to say this and where it exactly fits-is this what they consider historical grade?).

I will find out next week what chemo I will be doing, followed by readiation. I am estrogen postive but had a hysterecomy so I will be doing the drugs other than the tamoxifen. Any info on the other class of drugs? Especially regarding hot flashes-because since I went off my HRT I am constantly alrady flashing:)

    Glad you've found us this is an incredible site for experience,knowledge, and most of all empathy. Sorry you needed to meet here for this reason tho.
    My doc's told me I had DCIS, but when they got in it turned out I had a 9cm invasive lobular carcinoma, and a small DCIS, and a couple of other microcalcifications. Needless to say,I was always going to have a mastectomy, so that didn't change it, but the surgeon (who is wonderful) was surprised.

    I think you mean that one of the margins came back positive, that would indicate that there were cancer cells there, which would necessitate more surgery. Did they do a sentinal node biopsy, or is that what you're having Mon.?

    Did you get a written report of your biopsy, and surgery results? If not, have them give you a copy, and then a GOOD explanation of what it all means, and keep asking until you understand. It's your body, and there's no such thing as a dumb question.

    I'm in the middle of chemo, then will have radiation and, I think, Tamoxifen. As for the hot flashes---can't offer a lot. I sometimes wake up during the night and put a wet wash cloth on my head so I can go back to sleep (one of the only benefits of losing my hair---my head cools off faster) ;>}

    Hot flashes
    I have a pedestal(sp) fan that I have a few feet from the end of my bed. I turn it on low and have it blow across my feet and legs, bounces off the wall and keeps the air in the room moving. This has been a tremendous help and I have been sleeping much better. The indirect air is better for me - as long as my feet are cool the rest of me seems to follow. It also doesn't dry out my throat when I sleep like an overhead fan does. (Never could keep my mouth shut) Worth a try.

    Sounds like you need to meet again with your doc. for some more explanations. You can get a copy of your path report and get a second opinion, or familiarize yourself with the facts so you can ask specific questions. You are in a good place with no lymph nodes. And here I want to thank you for a good smile. I like your version better - No LUMP nodes!
    I have two tumors, one in situ (contained) and the other invasive. They staged me according to the invasive one (which was smaller).
