Other treatments?

Hello Everyone,
I am back again after moving from a different state. We were getting settled in and my mom was having a good response to Taxol after the Gemzar stopped working. Then the numbers just jumped. She started on Doxil 2 wks ago but is now in the hospital for pain management. Before this she has the platinums and was down to 100 but it's gone up to 13,000 now. Etoposide and Topotecan did not work. Does anyone have any other treatments in mind? We have heard of some other ones and I am going to keep praying that her numbers come back down as they tend to fluctuate in a big way like that. She's a single mom and my sister and I are in our early 20s, any guidance is so greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

Hi, Stacey...
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. It must be so tough for you and your sister.
My numbers went up after I received Taxol treatment, and my Dr. put me on IP Chemo, Cisplatin. IP Chemo involves a port on the stomach as well as the shoulder. I still received Taxol in my shoulder, but they used Cisplatin in my abdomen. It's extremely harsh; I had to be hospitalized overnight for each treatment (I had 5). 6 treatments were prescribed, but my CA had dropped to 3.5, so my Dr. cancelled treatment #6; I'm very happy to say. Each treatment brought different side effects. It got a little easier as I went along.
It's tough; but was very effective for me. I'm stage 3. My last treatment was mid-April, and my CA is now 4.3, but I am still suffering from some of the side-effects. I hope this helps you, as a possible option to think about and discuss with your Mom's Dr.
Your Mom is very lucky to have yours and your sister's support through this awful time. Don't feel bad if there are times she just needs to be alone; or times she just needs to cry or freak out. She's going through a lot emotionally as well as physically.
Hang in there. I find that prayer and meditation helps me a lot to cope with things.
Good luck to you, your Mom, and your family.

StaceyEle, I know a couple of women who had Avastin for a therapy. It can be bad for blood pressure, though, so it's not for everyone. Best of luck to you and your mom. I'm sure we're all praying for you.0
