Hi everyone,

I had my 1st chemo treatment on Monday and as of last night and today I am exhausted. I slept 11 hours last night and I am still so tired. I am normally like the energize bunny and to be feeling so tired is frustrating. Can anyone offer advise on how long this tiredness lasts? Thanks for your help. Kit

  • Fatigue is the most common complaint here....almost universal with everyone on treatment.
Since you were a 'mover and shaker' before you are probably going to notice the difference in energy levels even more.
Try to organize your days so that you absolutely have to accomplish less on any given day and let the rest go or get someone else to do it. This is time for YOU. Be kind to yourself.
Remember that your blood counts are probably going to be down for the duration of your chemo so expect to be tired and adjust for it.

Fatigue is the most common, complaint about being on chemo. Just remember that this will be temporary. It is frustrating to be unable to do what you are used to, but now is time to concentrate on taking care of yourself, and let others help you. Don't try to be Wonder Woman, for the time being. Many people have days they feel worse and days they feel better during the cycle between treatments. You will learn what you can do as you go along.

    Take care of yourself, seof

Yes Fatigue is what seems to get us all. I think the best advice is to take care of yourself and don't worry about getting things done. I found often my biggest accomplishment some days was just getting out of bed and making dinner for my child who's world continues to turn while I wish it would stop. Resting is often what we need since our sleep habits are all over the place often leaving some of us awake when we should truly be sleeping only to have to get our sleep sometime during the day. I just hope you don't try to do too much and then wearing yourself out instead taking care the number one thing on our to do list. REST and SLEEP are out best healers. If there is one thing I have learned from my cancer battle it is this and most of us spent our days sleeping as little as possible afraid we are going to miss something or miss doing something...
    Be your own best friend,
    Tara

I also had my first chemo Monday and part 2 of 5 was sterroids so Monday night I got 2 hours of sleep and have been slowly getting more each night but Next Monday it all starts over again.
