Is chemo ever powerful enough that no further surgery is needed?!?

I've heard people here tell of chemotherapy getting rid of their tumors that were inoperable, so yes, i believe chemo can be that powerful. After my chemoradiation treatments the tumor no longer had cancer in it. It was the radiation that did it, but the chemo helped it along.

    Many hugs!

    Hi -

I have to say (knock on wood) that chemo can be that powerful. I was diagnosed in 5/05 with a sigmoid colon tumor - colon surgery 2 weeks later and it turned out that I had biopsy proven Stage IV disease (liver met). I had 6 cycles of Xeloda/oxaliplatin/Avastin - I was NED after 3 cycles and went on to complete 6. I have now been NED for 33 months and off chemo for 30 months. The textbook cure is liver resection, but no one will take a crack at my liver, because scans are negative. I realize this could change, but at this point I have to say that chemo can be very powerful.

    Take care,
    Betsy
