Mohs Surgery Issues

I was scheduled to have Mohs surgery the day after tomorrow on my nose for a very small squamous cell carcinoma. Unfortunately, I came down sick yesterday with what appears to be a sinus infection with fever, cold chills, yellow mucous etc. The earliest appointment I can get with my regular doctor to treat the infection is tomorrow morning.

I called the Mohs surgeons clinic today to reschedule the surgery and they were not at all pleased. They actually wanted me to go ahead and have the surgery! I had reservations due to my coughing and nasal mucus etc. I asked my Mohs surgery coordinator what they would suggest that I do. She consulted with the nurses who offered no advice and left it up to me.

This really bothers me. I felt that they were more concerned with keeping the surgeons schedule filled than with my health. I rescheduled my appointment to mid July, the earliest appointment I could get. It seems to me that any surgery should have some hard and fast protocols dealing with sudden illness, fever, nasal mucus, etc.

What would you have done?

    i had the same thing happen
    i had the same thing happen to me last year and i continued with the procedure and just let the dr know when i raised my arm to move the scalpel away so i could cough. they were more than understanding and it went well.

    Honestly, I know you don't feel well and would probably rather be in bed, but if the cold does not necessitate putting off the surgery I would go ahead and go through with it. It may not really be a scheduling issue. The doctor may not really see a need to put off the surgery - he may really be able to work around your illness.

    I know this is old and I am
    I know this is old and I am bumping it up but if you have a cold, how the heck are you expected to blow your nose when you've had Mohs surgery on it?? I had surgery once on my nose and know that if I ever need it done again not to schedule it during cold/flu/alergery season.
