Hi there, question for my Mom

Hi everyone,
My Mom had removal of one of her breasts due to invasive lobular breast cancer 12 weeks ago. She is still experiencing soreness at the surgical site, just when she touches it or when her prothesis touches it. Do you think this is normal? She is 77 and in relatively good health otherwise. She also stayes tired alot more than before, taking femara therapy. Thanks for any replies as we dont know if the doctor needs to be contacted.

    No, my tenderness didn't last that long and yes, she should have it checked out. Not because it sounds alarming, but because we should always check out what is worrying us, even a little, so the worry can go away. I know the nerves are tricky and they heal in all sorts of different fashions. Surely she is just going through the healing process, but why take my word for it? Make your doctor work! And go out to lunch after the appointment. You and your mom deserve lunch and dessert. love, Joyce

    I agree, call your DR~make a pest of yourself until you and your mother are satisfied! I had a lumpectomy 5 YEARS ago, and I am still tender at the surgery site. I am not in pain, per se, but always "aware". Perhaps nerve endings were severed...I can't even abide a breast exam without holding my breath and biting my tongue!!!
    Others, like Joycelouise, experienced minimal discomfort. We are all alike, yet different! :-)

    Have your mom go in andsee her Dr. Chances are it is her normal style of healing...but wouldn't it be better to know??

    I agree with others...call her doc...even if it is for peace of mind! They are used to this stuff...

    I had 2 radical mastectomies at different times many years ago. The two experiences were quite different. My first one 'bugged' me for months after but the second one was quicker to heal and deal with all together.
    The important thing is for you and your mother to have peace of mind...and your dr is one of your best resources for that. And hopefully we here can help too. :-)

    I never have had femara, but 12 weeks is not that long, really. She is getting used to the loss of a fair amount of tissue with the nerves and muscles involved. I had surgery in December '07, and still have numbness and occasional tightness with the muscles under the arm. I think each of us heal in a different way.

    All that said...Always ask the Dr. any and every question...then ask the Dr. again, and then ask the Dr. after you ask the Dr....(you get the point). It is his/her job!

    Hi..I had my second mastectomy on march 12th..still experiencing soreness around the scar...thinking the prosthesis is aggravating it ..besides I think the Arimidex is making all my joints hurt and is magnifying the soreness in the scar...healing is taking longer than I anticipated but time heals all...I had no trouble healing from the first one...take care
