I got the news yesterday that the Folfiri did not work as the CT scan showed that the tumors in my liver are larger and, again, extensive. So, after my trip to Ca. I will start the Erbitux, Avastin and Irinotecan routine. At least, I won't have the blessed pump :) I am bummed and so are the kids, but we are still happy for each day. My kids are so supportive as they respect my independent spirit and my decisions. We once again spoke about decisions regarding "quantity vs. quality", but I am not there yet with that...I think that they worry about the chemo effects. Right now, I am willing to try a new "cocktail" and hope that Ir tolerate it as well as the others. On to a new day...ready to go to Taekwondo class at noon.

    I'm sorry about your news, but I LOVE your spirit. I hink that has to help your chances for a happy outcome. Enjoy every minute!

    You are so strong! Going to taekwondo? I couldn't do that! I feel like such a baby!

    I have so much faith that you will pull through this because of your strength. Like Gail said, your attitude is wonderful! There is something out there that will work for you, and kill it once and for all! I can't remember if you had mentioned Xeloda in past posts, but I have said it before that my boss swears it saved her life. She had bad liver mets at the time.

    I will keep you in my thoughts, and pray that your next scan will reveal NED!

    Keeping that great attitude works wonders.Have you been on these chemos before? Let us know. We can let you know how they effected us and maybe some good advice on helping with those effects.

    I just had the Irotecan (sp) with the folfiri. I also, had Avastin. The Eribitux is the one I am worried about. I am a baby when it comes to rash type stuff. I got poison ivy last summer and thought I was surely going to die of it. Apparently, they can't prevent the rash, but treat it if it gets too bad? Thanks for the thoughts.

    Just wanted to tell you that my husband has been on erbitux and irinotecan since 10/05. Our life is good and it has kept him stable. At the moment scans are showing some progression, but we are still hopeful.
    If you ever need advice on the "rash" side effect - just ask. I am happy to share all my husband's experiences. It took months to figure out how to control it, but we did. The rash lets you know that the erbitux is working!

    You have an amazing attitude that I know has gotten you this far and will continue to get you through this! Sorry that the Folfiri didn't work too well, but keep going til you find what does work! Keep on enjoying each day and keep believing!

    Yes, checked out all"spheres". Too many mets for that or anything else to work. Just have to go with the chemos. Thanks for mentioning it though.

    I have been on Irinotecan and Erbitux since May of 2007. I have had a liver resection since then and there has been stability on the spots in my lungs. The side effect of Erbitux is mostly the rash, and yes, though annoying, is very manageable. Use lots and lots of hydrating creams (I like Aveeno for the body). For the face I use a gentle cleanser and I've tried many moisturizers. Settle on the one that makes you most comfortable. I also found that monocycline (sp?) has really helped with the acne and rash. You need to have a presciption for that. I have heard of several people who have been on Erbitux for upwards of a year with success. So keep up your spirits, because you still have options. Monica
