I went with a partial (6.6 cm. right kidney stage I, grade 2 clear cell carcinoma) Went to Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Coleman advices partial, due to a 22% occurance of kidney failure down the road. All margins clear, 9 weeks into recovery, no chemo needed. Other drs. wanted to remove the entire kidney. Hope I made the right choice.

I had almost the same diagnosis as you, and went with the partial. Here I am 5 years later with two functioning kidneys.
I agree with Irene too. Sloan is about as good as you can get for any cancer in general. For kidney cancer specifically, maybe only Cleveland Clinic is ranked more highly.
Just stay on top of all of your regular scans. They can always take the kidney easily if something reappears. My doc (Sloan trained) made the same call, and I'm very grateful.0
