Hi All-
I had many surgeries relating to reconstruction. My cancer was on the left side & I had modification done to my right side so I matched in size etc. I'm about a year & a 1/2 out of my last surgery relating to my right breast & I am experiencing allot of pain (on the right.) I of course freaked out, went in, got a mammo & THANK GOD all came back negative. No one can seem to tell me what is causing this pain. All they can tell me is that it may be related to the modification procedure and it's "settling" anyone have any similar experience?

Lots of things can cause pain after surgery. Surgery can cut nerves which fire randomly. That kind of pain diminishes with time. I found that light massage would set off all the nerves. Then they couldn't fire for a time (like 20 minutes to an hour) which gave me a break. After a few weeks that calmed down. But surgery can also result in adhesions. Those are scar tissue that connects stuff that shouldn't be connected. Adhesions may or may not hurt. There can be infections after surgery that could cause pain. And of course you have muscles in your chest that could be slightly rearranged that might be causing problems. If you have a friend who specializes in physical therapy, they might be able to help you describe the pain, area, and problem in medical terms and give you some ideas for treatment. A year and a half seems like a long recovery time to me.

    Hi Irish Girl:
Glad that the mammo came back fine. I am thinking that the pain you may be feeling may be scar tissue. My suggestion is to make an appt with the plastic that did your reconstruction and see what he/she says. I just had my recon and am doing the other breast next month so I can't share any experiences yet as this is new to me. Keep us posted. Hugs, Lili
