  • you may have an organization in your area that can help. We have one that gives grants to women with cancer that are having difficulty paying bills etc... I and most that I know were able to work all through chemo. But I can only imagine how tough it would be if not able to. Check with social worker at your cancer center, they may be able to direct you to a group that could help. Helping people to deal with all aspects of cancer treatment is what they do. Good luck, keep us posted. Eileen

I agree with Eileen and be sure to contact the ACS and maybe they can assist. My prayers are with you.

I agree with the ladies, check with your Social Worker and ask for any help there is out there. There is no help here in Canada....unless you worked and paid into Canada Pension plan for 5 yrs prior to dx. I get nothing and no help, thank God I am married to a hard working man that provides for us. Financial help during Breast cancer should be available to everyone, and help with post ca too...it's something we need to make people aware of. Lots give to the ca society, they need to help individuals that need the help as well as the ca research and equipment.....
Hope you get some answers hon.....God bless

Even though your work disability has ended, you should check into SSI disability. Go to your local Social Security office and they will advise you how to procede. This avenue saved my life when I was left a disabled single mom after 3 cancer diagnoses.

If you have a branch of ACS near you, they may have some resources. Your hospital may have some resources as well. Hospice Care here in TX. offers a wide variety of in-home care, including counselling, and they have connections to some financial resources. Maybe you have something similar?

    Sorry, not much help. seof.

You wouldn't happen to have AFLAC insurance? that saved me! try a collabrate in your area or your church...I was newly divorced, new job in a new town and 2 friends. talk about alone..whewwww
I did not work thru my treatments, I wanted to concentrate on getting better. I didn't qualify for SSI disability.

In the US you could call social services and ask for help. Food stamps, rent assistance, and applying for disability benefits could come through them. There are many "bandaid" emergency programs in most communities. Food pantries can usually give out two or three bags of groceries to tide you over till food stamps are obtained. There is a food coop in my town that brings boxes of food to a local church that folks can buy for almost nothing if they will just apply and pick it up. Some organizations will pay the power bill once every so often so you don't freeze. Some churches will "adopt" a family so their needs can be met. Every penny saved counts so you can stretch your resources enough to get by. You can find out about resources through a social worker at social services or from the hospital. You can also call different churches yourself or look in the phone book. Our "blue pages" list many programs to help out in emergencies. Not being able to pay your rent qualifies as an emergency, so USE THOSE RESOURCES! I am thinking of you. Good luck!
