Hi everyone thanks for you prayers, my surgery date is set for April 9th. do you know how long I will be in hospital? I think a couple of days, not sure, I will be celebrating my 54 birthday in East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, Ohio, what a birthday present. I am getting nervous about having this done, talked with sister who has ovarian cancer and she says that 16.5 is in the high normal range, the level should be about 5.

The length of time in the hospital will depend on what they do and how you do afterwards, so there is no telling. IF you are talking about the readings on the CA-125 cancer antibody blood test reading, I was told 30 and under is the normal range. This test is not a good measure for all kinds of cancer cells tho so it depends on what the pathology lab report (after surgery) says. I knew mine was reading it good before my surgery because i had 4 chemos before and the blood test dropped from 2988 to 35 with that chemo. It also shrunk the many tumors I had from 2.5 centemeters to 1 cm. according the the CT scans. Your surgeon should tell you what he expects to do and how long it will take. If not, ask him. Mine sure did. I had two, one for the ovarian cancer all in abdomen and a liver surgeon for the liver RFA. They both were good at explaining stuff to me. I also had anesthesiologist to explain the pain killers etc. Lots of test beforehand. I will mark your date on my calendar and be in prayer for you. (((HUGS))) Saundra

    Hi Ladybug.
I know you're nervous. Most often we are anxious more about what we don't know than what we do know. Your doctor's office should be able to answer any questions you have. But we're here to help too! Not knowing the extent of your surgery I can only go by my personal experience - I was in 6 days for my hysterectomy (they also removed omentum, lymph nodes too). My second surgery (2006) I was also in for 6 days (removed a mass, more lymph nodes, appendix). But my doctor is very thorough and I had an ENG tube (tube down the nose to the stomach), cathetar, and I couldn't eat OR DRINK for five days. He likes to keep my system unstressed because he does a lot of poking around, etc. Long story short, a lot depends on what's being done, your doctor's protocol, the hospital, etc. Don't hesitate to ask them questions.

In 2000 when this all began for me, 'normal range' for CA125 was 0-35. Now my blood tests show the range to be 0-21. Mine has been averaging 10-13 for the last year. Hoping they stay that way or go down.

Well, you can be sure I'm sending lots of prayers your way, and HUGS too! When you are up to it, let us know how you are feeling.

    Luv & Hugs,
    Monika

P.S. I was born and raised in Columbus, OH (live in Michigan now). We're not that far from eachother! Now I know my prayers will reach you for sure!

    Hi ladybug,
I had my surgery Feb. 29th. I spent 6 days in the hospital. I too was nervous, but now I feel alot better. I see my cancer doctor on March 31st. I will then find out when I will start my chemo. My CA-125 level was 30,000 before surgery. I don't know what it is now but I"m sure it is way down. Make sure and ask lots of questions.I will say prayers for you!!!Hugs Terry

Hi. I had surgery last July and was in the hospital for 4 days. Had total hysterectomy including cervix plus my omentum taken out. CA 125 at surgery was 1660 low was right after chemo and then it was 6.9. I've heard the old range was 0-35 and now they are using 0-21. Guess it depends on the doctor and what they feel is best.

Of course you are nervous, just do your best to keep occupied, start making your list of questions and don't be afraid to asking everything you want to know. It's your right.

Best of luck and we'll be sending good thoughts your way. I'm in Brookings, South Dakota by the way. I love finding out where everyone is from. Like having pen pals when I was in elementary school. Take care.
