Today I am 50
I may be in debt (up to my eyeballs and then some), out of work and still recovering from the second of two occurances some two plus years later. But how I choose to live this day and the next are up to me.
Thank you.

Fifty was a celebration for me too, much to my surprise. I dreaded birthdays from age 11 on (I just didn't want to get old and have responsibilites and wrinkles!). Then I had cancer in my mid-forties. I told my friends to celebrate my 50th with pink balloons and white frosting and to forget any sign of mourning for my youth. At this point, it's all good! Happy 50th!!!0

Sounds like what you got for your birthday wasn't a new doll. That might have been fun but you got something not made out of plastic, something real, and my birthday wish is that your gift of understanding, gratitude, and determination work together to make this 5oth year a year of true beauty, and not a doll mask!
Now, cut me a piece of the cake! Just because we are learning deep things doesn't mean we can't have chocolate too! Happy Birthday!
love, Joyce (I will join you - 50 on May 9th)0 -
Hey Cathe:

"THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!"
Julie Andrews turned 69 - To commemorate her 69th birthday on 1 October, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music."
Here are the actual lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted
over four minutes and repeated encores.)0 -
