Cyst on CT

Hello,
I just posted yesterday and received very encouraging responses - thanks so much to everyone.... I did have a question for those who did respond to me regarding the object that appeared on my moms scan. The doctors said that they are not sure what it is -- it could be a cyst, it could be the return of the disease. For those of you who have had cysts, were they identified as such immediately or did you need to have follow up? I am very nervous that they think this is bad news because they have ordered so many follow up tests.. If they thought it was a cyst, wouldn't they be able to tell from the CT?

According to my oncologist you can't tell for sure on a CT. Since mine was on the ovary and pelvic ultrasound was pretty definitive. Since your Mom's is in the pelvis it might be harder to be sure. One thing I have learned is that the medical profession is obligated to follow up any "odd" findings no matter what they "think" it might be. I hope things are OK for your Mom.0

Just after my rectal cancer was diagnosed with a colonoscopy, I had a CT scan which showed a suspicious spot on my liver. My surgeon ordered an ultrasound, since he said he needed to know whether to go in and look at my liver. The ultrasound showed it was just a cyst (so it didn't need to be looked at during surgery), and subsequent CT scans (which showed no change in the spot) and another ultrasound have confirmed this.
I think it's ordinary to find something on the CT that requires further investigation, and to investigate it, and find that it's not a problem.

I had cysts show up on my recent CT Scans and have been following up with pelvic ultrasounds. My next one is due in Sept 08. All ultrasounds have come back indicating cysts in left ovary. I have also had 3 CA 125 blood tests done and they to came back negative.0
