Any ideas why Cea would increase while taking radiation and 5 FU? My cea has nearly doubled in 6 weeks! Hoping it's not realted to eturn of previous lung mets. They're radiating now for a perirectal mass:( Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I really am not qualified to give you a specific reason, and no experience with rads but I do know that my husband was told cea increase was common with chemo as cancer cells were being destroyed, but released in the blood stream. Perhaps the same reasoning can be applied, but hopefully, someone who has had previous experience will share. Best of luck to you and God Bless.

I am also not qualified to answer, but my doctor told me that the CEA measurement is very quirky and can go up and down for a variety of strange reasons. I asked what they would do if my CEA went up and he just said they would probably do a scan to see if anything was really going on. He said often it is indicitive of nothing.0
