We've been told the cancer is growing in my father lungs.
Health care professionals seem rather confused when listening to his lungs with that information in mind. His lungs sound clear and strong.
?!
I'm confused.

They can't tell from listening to the lungs anything about the state of the cancer, unless it is large and causing an obstruction or producing alot of fluid in the lungs. Listening is only a very crude way to tell what is going on in the lungs. It is helpful for giving signs like pneumonia (which causes some obstruction or fluid) or congestive heart failure (which causes a large amount of fluid).

Hey, I've got those too! Lung, not liver (so far). My lungs also sound clear through a stethoscope but I'm starting to develop a funny little cough.cjf2006 said:I have "innumerable metastases" in my lungs, but my lungs sound clear. The tumors are still small, though a recent scan showed that they are growing. I have no difficulty with my breathing. My "innumerable metastases" in my liver are my bigger problem.
