I am almost there--almost 4 1/2 years

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I had an appt. with my surgeon this week to review my recent Cat Scan. I remain NED. I am now almost 4 1/2 years since my surgery for stage 3 rectal cancer.
To all the newbies---you will get there. I remember when I was diagnosed on 3/17/03 that 5 years seemed so far away. Now I am almost there. I haven't figured out what I will do for the actual celebration. Five years will be on 6/26/08. My surgeon uses the day that the cancer was removed.
Please read my web page for details of my cancer journey. It had been a long and rocky road. But my NEW life is back to normal for me. I am thankful that I am still here.
I feel guilty posting this because I realize that everyone is not as lucky and that many here have lost their battle and I realize that many of you are still in the fight.
I want to give all the newbies hope, because that is what I wanted to hear when diagnosed. I wanted to hear the success stories.
Livestrong.
Maureen
PS I continue to pray daily for all of you, especially those still in the fight.

Maureen I am so happy for you. Your news sure came at a good time for me because recently I have been feeling very "low" with doubts creeping in that I will not beat the beast. You know the feeling of waiting for "the shoe to drop"!!!
It is such an inspiration to me that "Cancer is a word not a sentence --- it can be beaten"
Yippee - congratulations - many, many years of happiness!!!0 -

hi maureen,
i remember how you were one of the people who helped me thru my jouney the most.so happy for you and you give me hope. im back on chemo again found the beast in my pelvic lymph nodes. all seems to be clear at the time. i cant wait for my 5 year mark. it is so funny, i havent posted here in some time. i got so depressed with life. i lost another grandchild, got cancer again it seemed as though the tragedies would never end. but im putting out my positive vibes putting my chin up and beating this thing. anyways thanks for your past help and thanks for a look at the bright side.

WooooHoooo!!!! Great news, and thanks for the update; I clung to these reports of good outcomes when I first found this site.
We need to celebrate this summer; palooza for 2??? I will reach my 4 years post-surgery next month, but my follow up appts are with my onc, who counts from end of chemo. Either way, I'll take it! We have so much to be thankful for; enjoy your holiday. Judy0
