Saundra, Doxil was one of the chemos that gave me a break. But be very careful of wearing anything that rubs, hot water, heat from cooking and all the things that can cause the rash and hand/foot syndrym.
I used instant ocean in bath water when I could finally take a tepid bath, and also soaked my feet and hands in cold water with it. It is for tropical fish so you get it at the pet shops. Also the original Eurcerin Creme worked the best for me, and I did sleep with cold rice packs in my hands (they itched terrible the first few days) and cold gel packs at my feet.
I pray this is the one to kick the heck out of the cancer. Prayers N Hugs Bonnie0 -
Thanks Bonnie. Your are such a wealth of information. 24 hours in and no side effects yet. Do you remember when yours hit? I still think the radiologist read the CT scan wrong and I know he did not know that I had radio frequency ablation on the liver tumors and that he was comparing it to a CT before that proceedure . Will know this next week when the Dallas doctors are back from vacation. All of my other abdomen/pelvic scan was negative. If the liver was active after 4 chemos, it is logical to think some would have been growing elsewhere and the CA-125 would not have stayed at 6 for the last 9 weeks. It has been under 35 since the surgery and RFA on the liver the first week in July. How are you doing? You are such an inspiration to me. Saundra, I had my first treatment of doxil and carboplatin on Friday 19th. I had a very bad reaction to the carboplatin and I will not be having that in the future. Since Friday 19th I have spent most of my time, night and day in the loo with severe diarrhoea. You are very fortunate and you will probably not have any side effects. I tolerated the doxil without any side effects back in September 2003 and I had a long remission then of 15months. Today the diarrhoea has now subsided and I am getting control back over my bowel movements. I do think you are correct with regard to the images on your liver. In Nov 2004 I had a CT which picked up a lump in my breast. after a week of worrying and a mammogram this turned out to be a cyst which they were able to drain and not cancer. Irene0

It's great that you didn't have a reaction with your first infusion!!!! Not to frighten you, but continue to stay cautious and prepared. My side effects didn't happen until after my 4th treatment. I thought I was getting away with wearing a bra....oops, I got a pretty severe burn in my bra area! Then, I wasn't thinking, took a six hour car trip just days after my 5th infusion, and got the worse burn on the back of my legs (pressure/heat induced). Sorry to say, that burn and pain lasted for three months. Of course, the pain did reduce after about a month. But, for the first two or three weeks I could barely sit down and get up the pain was so bad. But, I think that had I not taken that trip I wouldn't have had the severe burn. The other rashes after the 4th and 5th infusions were scattered and fairly mild. I think that if I would have been more cautious I wouldn't have had to suffer as much as I did. I found a site that sold mu-mus and wore those without underwear for the duration of my treatment. I did all of the things that Bonnie and others suggested, and boy, what a help! I loved the cool sea salt baths when I was burning so badly. I just had to write because what I experienced can be avoided and I want your treatment to continue to be without side-effects and successful!!!! Keep up the good work! Take care, MM0

Hi Saundra
I'm happy that so far Doxil is being kind to you. Looks like the girls have already told you about anything hot or tight fitting. I also go a itchy rash, and it left scars on my legs, but that was the worse of it. It was pretty good to me and gave me a 13 month remission, plus the 6 months of treatment. The only thing I want to mention is how the ca-125 can stay the same or even go up during this tx. Throughout my 6 cycles my ca-125 never budged..it stayed at 12. I saw the first drop 30 days after my last treatment, and another drop down to 5 90 days after tx...so it stays with you for a while. Also when I did go out I wore a 50 spf to protect my skin and that helped me, as I was moving 500 miles away during my treatment, and it really helped with those rashed.....Good luck and (((((hugz)))..Joanne0 -
Hi Saundra, I'm doing Doxil too, and have heeded the warnings as much as possible, sunblock and all. Last year I had a severe outbreak of blisters from the binding clothing and hot bath I took, unaware of the warnings. This time I'm at 50% dose and have had only 5 or 6 little blisters and took Hylands homeopathic remedy for hives...it seemed to stop the progress of the blistering. My numbers dropped dramatically from 126 to 80 after the first treatment and I expect a similar response this time. The best part is the 3 week break..I love it to be able to travel again.
Wishing you well and hope the path ahead is an easy one for you.
