Hi, I am always lurking, but seldom post. Just wondering if any of our long term survivers have had high white cells. I am just a little bit worried.

Usually not. With chemo, of course, it usually goes down. What is the number you are worried about? If it is really high then usually they have to look at the type of white cells present and look at the white cell factories (bone marrow).

Also, if it occurs while you are sick (and not on chemo) it is because your white cells are fighting off the infection. Some supplements and immune boosters increase WBC's.

We need more info to try to figure out why WBC could be up.

    Hi Virginia,
My blood counts never get out of the normal range. I really think you need to get to the nearest town with a pet scan and get it checked out , even if it only turns out to be an infection.
I remember when we were being told about side effects of the chemo we were on ,the one that scared me most was the possibility of developing leukemia. Having said that ,I dropped in to see my old oncologist a couple of months ago and asked if the chemo could be causing all the problems I'm having with stones in various organs. In his honest opinion the only worry with chemo is whilst you are having it. He thinks the only long term effect it had on me was saving my life. We have had cancer once so we know that we can get it ,so it always has to be a concern. Don't let them fob you off ,you need to find a cause.
Good luck and stay well ,your friend from accross the ditch , Ron.

How high is high? And what type, there are 5 as Vinny pointed out.Remember an infection or an allergic reaction can also cause a rise.

Hi ****, I do not know the number, my Dr rang me to say it was very high and I have to go and repeat the test on Monday. I had the blood test because of hip and knee pain, no sign of infection anywhere, so I am really worried, hope the lab made a big mistake!

Hi Ron, you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Leukemia, that is why I am so worried. I will get back when I hear from my Dr on Tuesday, hopefully it is one of those lab mistakes.

Love from this side of the ditch, Virginia.
