Very Rare Cell Type

I have tried this before with no response, but we have a lot of new people out there. I have Malignant Mixed Ovarian Tumer of the Ovary, stage IIIB. It is generally more progressive but I had good response to 8 treatments of carboplatin/taxol in 2005. Now I am going through my first recurrance. Another rarity, It has come back in my lungs, 95% of the time it will come back in your abdomin or your pelvic area. With all these rare things happening to me, just maybe I will be one of rare ones to beat it. Either way I can still count more blessing in my life. Sure the devil gets in every once in a while but I just keep running him off. I had my third treatment yesterday of carbo/taxol yesterday with a bad reaction to the carbo. I thought that I was having a heart attack. Benadryl took care of it so I don't think it was my heart. Ha! I was able to finish the chemo at a slow rate. The pain from the chemo is so much greater this time. The DR had cut out all the cancer the first time, maybe it just hurts to get rid of the cancer by chemo. Just a thought. I will have a cat scan next week to see if the chemo is working but my ca125 weet up 12 points between the 2nd and 3rd chemo, that does worry me alittle.
Wishing all of you the best.

Hi Paula, Well, this just goes to show us how we are all so different and respond to things in different ways. What is good for one may not be for another. So you may very well be the rare one who beats it. That is entirely possible for all of us. I don't believe in statistics that I read. I believe it is all controlled by God and he has it all worked out. I have to tell myself that quite often but it is comforting to know that it is all in His hands. I will keep you in my prayers. Take care and keep on pushing that darn devil away!
Best of luck to you,

Paula:
I agree with Polly. God's the Great Physician and it really falls into His hands. Having said that, I know that He does work through doctors, medicine, etc. to carry this all out. So, there are many, many options out there. I know how you feel about the CA125. But it is such a fickle test - it fluctuates so much for various reasons. At this moment, I'm glad you can follow through with more treatments. As a two-time survivor I can relate to the 'second-time-around' syndrome. The carbo/taxol seemed much harder on me also. The pain was unbelievable. But, my doctor really believes in quality of life, as I hope yours does. So, if you think you need some assistance, such as pain meds or other alternatives, don't hesitate to ask. I didn't take any pain meds (fortunately, I managed without them). So let me know 'where it hurts' and maybe we can offer some suggestions to get you through this.
Till then, love and hugs AND prayers. You know this is a place of endless support and info. Keep in touch!

Paula, that is really awesome to go 2 years before dealing with a recurrence. The stats say if you get a remission of a year of better that means your cancer responds well to chemo.
I had a nodule in my lung, on my liver, and on several other organs ~ without having any remissions and still here, still on chemo but still here.
Keep the positive attitude, but know its okay to feel down adn cry. Tears cleanse our soul, I am positive about this.
Sending lots of hugs n prayers BonnieRose0 -
Keeping you in my prayers. You give me such hope with the long remission. I also have had good results with carbo/taxol bringing down the numbers of CA125 but developing an allergy that I am fighting off now. I hanging with you as we fight this devil. We are strong and determined and have God and a bunch of other warriors on our side. ((HUGS)) Saundra0

Paula - I am so sorry to hear of your recurrance. I am so new to the cancer scene that I don't have any words of advice. But I do know that I've heard many of you say that the carbo/taxol has been especially painful - is that the order you receive it in? I receive Taxotere/Carbo and I've not experienced this pain. I have a true allergy to Taxol so that is why I wonder if it's the carbo or the Taxol. I am questioning out loud. Can I ask if you receive any pre-drugs before getting your chemo?
My doctor does not believe anyone should be nauseaed, vomiting or in pain. There are many combinations of drugs to help with this (as I'm sure you are well aware.) Don't be a martyr - take the meds and whatever else you need to get you thru this.
So many of us are pulling for you. I am sending good thoughts your way and a hug. Kris0 -
Paula, I'm sorry to hear you're having pain from the treatments, and hope that will get better as the chemo helps you. I'll hold you in my thoughts and prayers.0
