OK - I feel great! I was diagnosed May of '06 (45 y/o,) with limited SCLC, treated with chemo/radiation and brain radiation for prevention of coming back there - my doc said there wasn't much up there to begin with but thought it best to do it:). Only complaints - weight gain and constipation. Now, I read on article in today's paper regarding treatment of lung CA and of course they print the survival statistics which scare the bejeezus out of me. Is there anyone there who has survived SCLC past the 2-5 years prediction? I feel so good and then comes those stupid articles that bring me down for awhile. My doctors told me that I am not a statistic and I do believe that. I just would like to see some statistic where SCLC has been totally beaten and a happily ever after story (am I asking for too much)? I have the best medical team on my side and I am so blessed for their commitment to me, and for my friends and family who have prayed for me and supported me and my family. I hope that everyone can feel the prayers sent their way. Any stories of survival and kicking SCLC's butt would be appreciated. Take it easy! Budders

    Dear Budders:

I am a 2 1/2 year survivor of NSCLC with no recurrence. Your Dr. is right, you are NOT a statistic. You have survived 15 months with no return of the disease. I think you're on a roll!
Hopefully, some SCLC survivors will write you. I have seen some long-term survivors on this site.

    God Bless You,

    Madelyn

Yep they sure know how to scare the bejeezus out of ya .I think I read the same article. You go along feelin pretty good an then they print that.
You an I both know we shouldn't read that stuff but it is like a magnet. I had my left lung removed In May of 06 Did chemo taxole an carboplatin no rads . If we could all lick the fear we would be good in good shape . You are still liveing the happily ever after story keep it up .

    Hi Budders,
At age 44 I was diagnosed with Limited Small Cell Lung Cancer that was the size of a grape fruit. I went through the exact treatment you did. I'm a marathon runner and after the treatment I ran two more marathon. Don't pay any attention to the article regarding the survival statistics after being diagnosed with lung cancer. I was diagnosed Oct. of 01 and as you can see next month will be my 6th years as a cancer survivor.I know it will always be in the back of my mind that the cancer can come back but I don't dwell on it.I just live life to the fullest everyday. I hope this will help you ease your mind.

Just to let you know I'll be 50 years old this month.

    Take care

    Andy

hi, I am now 56 years old, was diagnosed with limited small cell lung cancer in April of 2001, am now still alive and kicking, so don't let the statistics bother you! I have more side effects from the treatment then I do from the darn sclc. I have neuropathy from chemo and fibrosis in my lungs from the radiation but am doing well and no activity from the cancer. I am inoperable andthe tumor is still present but not active , so just live your life to the fullest and just keep the check-ups . I wish you well and don't listen to the stats. Mike

Thanks to you that responded to my original posting regarding survivors of SCLC. It is uplifting to know that this can (and will) be beat and that it will hopefully remain as a curve ball in this journey of life. I am so glad that you all are doing well and will pray that you continue to do so. There are 4 things that will get us through anything (this is what I tell my kids): faith, hope, love and trust, and after reading your posts, it just reaffirms by belief! Thanks for taking the time to respond - hope you all are enjoying a wonderful weekend! Budders

Hi Carla - you are so right God is Good and God is Great! I love your survival story and all the others that replace the fear with hope and confidence. I also have some COPD but not much but I was a 30 year smoker too. I see people now and think "don't you know that can cause cancer" and wished I hadn't been so stupid. But can't change the past, just look forward to the future. I have my PET-CT next month - I'll let you all know the results - keep me in your prayers as I will continue to do for you. Hope everyone enjoys a beautiful fall season! Budders
