can anyone guide me? my father has metastatic liver cancer

Bree29 My father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that spread to the liver and they also said it was full of tumors. Diagnosing it as liver metastases.

He has went completely vegetarian and also organic. He is on the strongest chemo there is and he is doing really good. He was given 8 months and it has been 10 months and so far so good.

They don't see the cancer in the esophagus any more but the liver is still covered but much smaller now. Hope this helps and encourages you don't ever give up there are to many thing out there to help you through this.

Sorry I got to this post late, but please check under colorectal cancer. You'll find many stage IV survivors with liver mets. (My husband is stage IV also with mets, however just had a resection after being told inoperable for 8 mos)Investigate theraspheres for the liver and rfa etc and definately get another opinion. They are only watching the cervical and lumbar as it does not seem to be growing at all. Right now we are having good results from the chemo but we do plan on looking at other treatment, just don't know what yet. hi, i read your reply to Bree......have a question. i too have a liver full of cancer that came over from the colon. i had surgery and part of the colon removed with a large tumor. i am a woman 75....i am receiving avastin and chemo...altho a small dose i think, i have no side effects. they said it cannot be cured, only controlled, maybe.....my question, how did they see the liver to know that the tumors had shrunk??? I dont know how they can check on it. I had a pet scan that showed 3 tumors on the liver, when the liver specialist went in, he said it was coveredd with small ones, so he did nothing. actually i feel good. am thinking the oncologist may decide to bump up my chemo. i have a power port......i heard theycan put a tiny camera down there. know anything about that.?

Hi, I also have a liver with 2 tumors and was told by my doctor after having a pet scan that they had shrunk...they compared the pet scan to the one 4 months prior..i have 2 grown daughters and a 7 year old daughter (they are the reason i continue to fight and God gives me the strength)....i have a post here t.bailey321@yahoo.com

I was on Oxaliplatin (platinum based 3rd generation chemo) and also was on Avastin at the same time. Also did the Xeloda pills with varying cycles due to the toxicity.

Interesting why he will not give you chemo. Avastin and Oxaliplatin make a pretty good one-two punch. And he could have you taking Xeloda too.

Check in with him, if he does not agree - seek a 2nd opionion.

I'm 5-years into my fight at only 47 - we're investigating 2 spots on the pleura of my lung right now.

Thanks for being a SURVIVOR of this awful disease. I just got diagnosed and my oncologist were not proactive enough to catch it before my Stage IIIA breast cancer spread to my liver. Long story but basically my markers were up, I was in pain, and after all my complaining I finally got a PET/CT scan over a year after my initial treatment started.

I depend on a Mighty and Wonderful Savior and Healer, Jesus Christ to get me through this. Also, I increased my raw fruits/veggies and did a detox using epsom salt, fresh lemon juice, and olive oil. My BP has dropped, my pain level is gone, and I sleep a lot better now.

We're looking at spots on the lung now, which concerns me, but we're seeing what the new doctor comes back with and then go from there.

Hello. I am a sister of an active duty airforce (36). He was assigned to Iraq in May 08.
He returned in Aug 08 with Paranasal sinus cancer (head & neck). He started out at stage
IV. After extensive radiation and cancer treatment for 8 months, in Washington D.C.,
everything looked good and the cancer seems to have gone away. In May, he had is PET scan
and was told that the cancer at met to the liver. He had most of his liver removed about
six weeks ago. Two days before his surgery to remove the effected areas of the liver,
his wife (34) was diagnosed with stomach cancer. We were blowed away. A week after my
brother's surgery, she was operated on to remove part of her stomach. Surgery for both
of them were good. So, we thought. My sister-in-law is having severe pains in her
stomach and back. She can not stand straigt, can't eat, can't diegest and basically the
entire system is not working properly. The doctors don't seem to know why she is in so
much pain. They haven't directed her what diet and how to get enough nutrients in her
body. She is weighting less than a 100 lbs. The surgery for her seems to have gone well
but, why can't she eat ad process food so that she can heal? She starts her radiation
tomorrow.
Yesterday, got a call from my sister in law that new cancer has been detected in the
remaining liver for my brother. They opted to post pond his treatment until she was done with her radiation due to their kids. Time is not on our side. I am taking their two kids (2 &5) with me over 5thousand miles away so that my brother and sister in law can get their treatment ASAP.
It's getting over whelming for our family to say the least.

We don't know what to expect and how he will do? Faith is getting weaker and our
resources to support are getting weaker as the cancer gets stronger.

How do we handle this? It's so hard to watch them go through this and I can't fix it.
Once I leave with the kids tomorrow, they won't see their parents for a month or more
if everything goes well. My brother and sister in law will be on their own to fight this.
They have no support where they are and we are too far away. We are hoping for a miracle
to help them.

If there is anyone with any advise or suggestion or even anything. Please let me know.

Hi. If there are MANY tumors throughout the liver , Theraspheres for the liver may be an option. Also known as SirSpheres and Ytrium 90 . Do a search for clinical trials in your state. Check with interventional radiologists at hospitals also to see if it's performed near you. If you haven't done so already, get second and third opinions. Whatever it takes, but do not stop investigating options! Finding an aggressive doctor can make a huge difference in treatment options. God Bless, Diane
