It's Been A Long Long Time

Hello everyone. My computer's hard drive recently crashed, big time, and I've been rebuilding everything and was overtaken with this tremendous urge to post on this board that was so very surportive of me when I was care giver to both my husband and mother, each diagnosed with cancer a year apart from each other. Old timers, you all remember me but for the newbies, my name is Monika and my 50 year old husband Bert was diagnosed stage III, 4 nodes, right sided colon cancer June 8, 2003 with surgery July 8 followed by six months of 5fu/leuc and another six months of 5fu/leuc/oxi. I just wanted to report that on July 8, 2007, my Bert has remained four years cancer free and is doing very, very well. We will be moving to Colorado shortly, into the dream home that we had built and have always wanted and we are both now retired and living each day to the fullest. Did cancer have anything to do with all of this? You bet. If nothing else, it sure put things into perspective and made us realize how precious each and every day is and that not a single one should be wasted or wished away, no matter how good or bad; and to never, ever, if possible, put your dreams off until tomorrow as their are no guarantees. I hope that many, if not all of you, will be posting here in the future as well of your success stories. Remember, although it is and can be a very tough fight, it is winable and with the great cheering and rooting section of this board in your court, the chances for success are very high. God Bless you all and know that a cure for cancer, all kinds, is always in my prayers. Fondest regards, Monika

    It's been WAY TOO LONG!!!

I am so happy to hear that Bert is still hanging out with NED!!!

You two should head to Nashville for our 5th Palooza in September.

    Take care,

    Stacy

Hey Monika, GREAT to hear from you and to hear that Bert (no type, right?) is doing so well. Sounds like you are taking your own advice seriously. Enjoy each day.
I understand the urge to post. I still lurk regularly, but when anniversaries roll around (my onc counts survivorship from the end of my chemo: July 9, 3 years and doing well) I find myself drawn to the boards again. For me, it is a way of continuing to stay in touch with the positive things this terrible disease has brought my way. I also continue to be so impressed with the indomitable strength so many of us find in the tough times. Continue to enjoy; good to hear from you. Judy

I was just thinking about you after re-reading your wonderful thank you note after I sent you the Lance bracelets way back when. I still wear mine!!!!

Great to hear from you and I love that y'all are moving into your dream home. I agree with Stacy that you should head east in September. I'd love to meet you both.

Hugs and try not to stay away so long the next time, annual check-ins aren't enough!!!

Monika & Bert!! It really HAS been a LONG time! How good to hear from you again! So, tell me, has Bert taken a typing class during your absence? NO? I didn't figure he would.

I am SO glad to hear how well he's doing - you must be incredibly happy.

All is well here with me. I have been absent from the board a lot because I am at sea and don't have great connectivity all the time.

Looking to get home soon and spend some quality time with my lovely wife - a lot has changed since 2003!

You guys stay well and be happy and keep in touch, OK?

    Love ya!
