BAD NEWS, METS TO THE SKULL
mucinous adenocarcinoma. MY husband and I cry every night. I will be starting radiation to the skull. MY back is in constant pain 24/7. I did go back to work 5 hrs a day with pain and all. I had to get out of this house. I am beside myself. I thought typically colon cancer goes to the liver and lungs. Boy was I fooled and so was the DRs.
I will also be starting chemo again in a few weeks after the radiation. I was told I will be receiving erbitux and avastin along with an antibody what ever that means. I just had a bone scan yesterday. The radiation oncoligist ordered one. I told him what is the sense in ordering a bone scan all these spots are going to light up and on the spine and the report will sing the same song compression fractures vs. mets to the bone. I was told last year that the compression fractures in the spine was due to osteoporosis and osteomalacia, also from having a hysterectomy in 199 as well as chemo and radiation. They biopsied the fracture at L1 at that time and it was negative for cancer. Totally shocked. I will keep you posted on this ugly disease. I do not have the strength to fight this time. Your friend

Fran, I honestly don't know what to say, but know that I will keep you in my prayers. Yes this is a horrible horrible horrible disease, but please try to gather up your strengh and fight!! I know it's easier said than done, but just look at Lance Armstrong, he had cancer all over and he fought it and won. You can do the same Fran. they are coming up with new medicines every day for cancer, so never lose hope. I'll pray for you,

Fran,
You DO have the strength to get through this. It just hasn't risen up to meet the challenge yet. Digest your news, roll up your sleeves, and put those boxing gloves back on. I am so sorry you have to face this again.
My prayers, thoughts, and good wishes are with you now and throughout your fight.
Big hugs,

Aww Fran,
I am so sorry to hear this. I can't believe all this time, that little inner voice that kept telling you something was wrong, was right! I am going to e-mail you and put you in touch with my friend Suzanne who has spinal mets. You may have seen a few posts back the article that she had sent to me. It is all about a new treatment for spinal mets! When I read about people with spinal mets and compression fractures occuring I got this sinking feeling about your back problems. I am so sorry for your bad news! Suzanne though, is an 8 year survivor of this disease and she has the most wonderfully positive outlook. Please e-mail me your phone # and I will put you in touch with her. I know she can help you! You will find that you are not alone and will dig deep and find the strengh! I am so very sorry the doctors missed all of these signs! That is so scary since your CEA was normal. Has CEA been a good indicator for you in the past?
Please do not dispair. They may be able to beat back this disease yet and solve your back pain. I guess this is a lesson that we all need to listen hard to our inner voice!
Love,

Fran,
A friend we met at my husband's chemo--also a stage IV colon cancer patient for 3-4 years recently found a brain and spinal tumor. He has had surgery and radiation and now chemo. The doctors were also surprised it spread to his brain. Please keep up the fight...You are in my thoughts and prayers!!

Gail, I like the idea of getting busy with living or .. dying. However, I found I needed time to just cry and ride the tide for a while. Maybe it was shock and was just a little of that "why me?"Glv49 said:Fran,

Fran, I'm so sorry that you have to get ready for such a fight. If you are working 5 days a week, you are a fighter, and this shows that you are going to do all that you can to beat this. Step 1: Put on your boxing gloves. Step 2: Get in the ring. Step 3: Beat the @x@* out of this thing. Step 4: Thank you God!
I just wanted to be a sort of cheerleader, because I want to cheer you on. Remember, we will all be in the ring with you
