Hi Virginia,
I'm sorry to hear that you are not well, the flu is bad enough but to have asthma on top of it is seriously scary. I hate prednisone ,in some ways it is as scary as chemo,I hope you only need a short burst of it.
I have been waking of a night gasping for air to. Unfortunately it is neither asthma or flu. I saw a cardiac specialist last week . I'm scheduled for tests. Their concern is congestive heart failure. I'm having serious problems with odema but unfortunately with kidney problems The diuretics are causing back pain and severe cramping. I am still working full time but I am struggling badly .I just cannot maintain the pace. I really don't know what will happen this time, I knew I would beat cancer but I have no such feelings about this. My cholesterol drugs have started breaking down my muscles again. I walked a couble of kilometers thru the sand dunes to the beach yesterday ,I didn't think that I could make it back with the pains and burning cramps and today I can hardly walk. I am trying like crazy to make it to jan 22 2008 so that I can get my 10 years up.

OH, Ron....I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. My beau is working with a bad heart, and it is no picnic. Sometimes we can be walking, and he just sits down suddenly. His main trouble is an enlarged heart, and he is set for an ablation in September to remedy atrial fib. It's awful.

I'm sending big hugs...if there is anything I can do, well, just holler.

Can you work less? My beau is now semi-retired, and it seems to be better for him.

Ron buddy,

I hate to hear this about your heart but don't get too far ahead of yourself until your appt. My brother in law recently got a pacemaker and was home in 2 days and a week later was a completely different person then he had been the last few years. Amazing stuff they can do for the heart these days.

BUT, don't let them mess to much with yours, I like it just the way it is. You are a great Aussie friend and I am honored to know you and also know that come January the semi-colons will be partying with you celebrating your 10 year mark.

I'm praying you'll for sure make your 10 year mark and then another 10...cardio medicine has come such a long way over these past few years that you should expect to celebrate..try to visualize and celebtate

Hey Ron (or as you Aussies pronounce it "Raun")

I am bummed to hear about your recent health developments, but knowing you, this will be no big deal. You are one of the strongest, most-incredible people I know, and this minor speedbump will be just that~~MINOR!

I think that with most health conditions, it's important to find the problem and address it. That is more than half the battle, so you are already well ahead of the game.

You are one of my heroes on this site, and hope to someday be as successful as you on this cancer road trip.

Hi Ron, I was hoping for much brighter news from you, it is very hard to live with other health problems after a Ca diagnosis.
My first asthma attack was the day after I returned home from the origional colon surgery. I was 43 years old and never had asthma before this episode.
I had 5 days of prednisone 40mg one more to go, no relief yet!
I do hope all turns out ok and you are able to be treated for the CHF and get some relief of your symptoms. Do take care and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
