I spoke with my sister, and she is holding up well. I told her about your responses, and she was happy.

She told our mom. That was hard. Mom is a 2x survivor (breast and endometrial), and me going to 2x (rectal and breast), mom was pretty sad about my sister. But she is glad that they have an 'expert' of sorts to shepard her thru!

My sister said she is not going to do much web surfing, cause it might freak her...but she DID say this: "I don't need any other books to read...I have my sister, that's information enough!" lol

Monday is PET scan (for any other dust bunnies) and meet-and-greet with rad guy, Friday is port insertion, Monday next starts chemo.

Interesting point. She will be getting 5FU (same as me), but Mitomycin instead of cysplatin...anyone familiar with this? From what I have read so far, it causes hair loss...not just hair thinning...

But, she said "Well, even so, I have my sister as a great example that even that is temporary"

Whew! And just after I sent a prayer up to give me some rest time...this comes along. I looked up and said "Not TEST time, REST time"...cheech!

    Sometimes I think God is trying to give us a chance to correct our sinful ways by putting hoops in front of us to jump through. Hair loss may be what I needed to get rid of vanity. Goodness only knows what will come next. I hate to admit it, but I'm still not perfect.

    See, lesson learned....You admit you are not perfect...hey, I think that's pretty terrific!

    I think you should mark THAT lesson off as being one learned!

    When I went to Dana Farber for a second opinion after my onc told me he had run out of ideas the onc at Dana Farber suggested Mitomycin as an option. He said it is an old drug, but that it is still quite effective.
    Does make me wonder why they are using one of the older regimens instead of one of the new ones.
    I'm sorry that you and your family have been blindsided by this again. My prayers are with you.

    Hi Kathy,

    I was late to see your message about your sister's recent diagnosis. Please know that I have her in my prayers and am glad she has you to talk to about it all. Much like we all have each other here.

    I have to tell you a story about naked happy dances. Back in 2005 after I had stopped chemo and was working my buns off feeding my immune system and shrinking tumors naturally while we were in the middle of a pretty significant drought here in North Carolina. My grass was brown and my veggie garden french fried. On a very hot and humid Thursday afternoon mid July, the day before my quarterly testing I was "getting lost in my yard", sweating like crazy. My dog had been swimming in the river behind my house so I had a towel by my front door to dry her off with.

    Anyway, just before dark it started raining, really hard but with no lightning or thunder. I was on my way down the hall to take a shower when something hit me. I went to my front door stripped down and went out in the yard butt naked, dancing in the rain. I danced and talked to God, it was an awesome experience, not like anything I had ever done in my life!!!!! I can still feel my colostomy bag slapping on my leg and seeing my dog and 2 cats starring out my glass screen door wondering what the heck I was doing. I wish I had a photo of them watching me with their funny facial expressions, especially my boxer.

    So, when I see your post about naked happy dance it always takes me back to when I actually did it in my front yard. I thought you would enjoy that.

    What a great story about your "Naked Happy Dance" I smile upon you for it and the feelings you felt! some may think going outside naked is strange~ but hey I've done it only acouple times(no dancing yet) in the privacy of my own little back yard, no one ever saw me, Just God & Mother Nature! just wanted to let ya know I laughed w/ you.     Her onc said it was an oldie but goodie...I think that this is so new....squamous cell carcinoma in the rectum...that they are trying to ensure that no surgery is necessary...thank you for the tip, though...

    Thank you, Amy...and I guess welcome back is in order! I don't know what I would have done without the 'old guard' like spongebob, scouty, kanort, and many more. Their wisdom is incredible.
