Anyone battles water buildup?

Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone out there might have similar problem that got treated succesfully??
My mom has been battling cancer for 5+ years with little break between chemos. Her first symptom way back was water in her abdomen. She is very skinny and athletic so it was very noticable. It has been coming back on and off, the doctors drained the water twice which esentially caused her to end up with stoma. Now she is on another session of chemo treatment and she is so bloated with fluid that she is like 7months pregnant. She can't sleep, lay down, eat or drink much. All that water is pushing on her lungs and stomach and causes her to be in constant pain. The docs don't want to drain it again as it increases the risk of spreading the cancer.
Anybody had the same problem and was treated?
thanks for your response

How very sad for you and your Mom to have to go through this, especially if she is in pain. I have had some fluid retention but never this serious, in a six year period of time. I would question the meds and if anything can be done to make her more comfortable. Isn't pain and quality of life the bigger issue here? Praying for some relief for her.
