Carbo and steroids recently caused an impaction. After ememas etc, my doc said to use Senecot, and could use it indefinately...it seems to be irritating my bowels and rectum, but I don't know what else to do. Exercise, water, and high fibre don't seem to be enough to keep things working. Afraid to eat at this point...suggestions?

Try using Miralax daily, it brings water to your bowels. Also I use Citrucel everyday, it does not cause gas like other things do. I use the sugar free mix in the morning and take 4 pills at night. That along with the gylcolax(or miralax) keeps my system pretty regualar except for them few days after treatment. You can email me if you have more questions. Hopefully this helps. Bonnie

Hi, I use the Mirilax. It is wonderful,no cramping. I put it in my coffee every morning and go regular everyday. It also has no taste or consistency to it so you can put it in anything...and it works very well. Good luck..Joanne

I had the same problems with carbo/taxotere combo. After lots of advice fromdocs/nurses, I hit on a plan that worked for me. First, lots of water the day before and after tx. Then I would take 2 stool softners (colace) before bed, plus a good shot of milk of magnesia, also at bedtime. Seemed to help me right away. Also the nurses said said to take as many stool softners as needed till everything started settling down. Hope this helps you out.

    Hi Curlee88,
I know how you feel about putting things in your mouth when nothing is coming out, but if you stop eating you're essentially shutting down your digestion system. You need to eat! Even if you don't eat much (smaller frequent meals are better), the act of eating itself helps to keep your digestive system working. Also, eat slowly and chew your food well! I know it sounds very basic, but it just might help.

    Hugs, ~Marianna~

i am having a lot of the same things going on since my surgery. i have a lot of gas build up so i am going to try some of the things listed in the replies. i took some milk of magnesia fri. night and that was not a good thing. i threw up blood and had cramps. i had taken this product while taking chemo and never had a problem. my doctor was not too worred about the blood - said it was just gasses. my husband was so upset though.
i hope everything starts going smoother for you.
    thinking of you

    Hi!
I responded to your Sennakot post, so I won't repeat myself. But Bonnie and some others recommended Miralax. My husband takes that because the medications he's on also causes sluggishness. It's a really good product, and now it is available over the counter. Good luck. (((HUGS)))
