sciatic nerve pain

Saundra:
Sorry you're having this pain. I've had it before, but not from chemo. It's horrible. I had it when I was pregnant with my first daughter, around the 8th month. It was difficult to walk and I actually used a cane from time to time.
Stretching the muscles in the area helps. You can even google 'stretching exercises for the back, glutes, hamstrings sciatic nerve' and find something. Warm up the area before with your heating pad, and take it slow and easy - no bouncing, as some people do when they stretch. Are you married or have someone that can massage it for you? I know it sounds funny, but sometimes if you use reasonable pressure with the palm of your hand or even the thumb in the area of the buttocks where the pain tends to travel, it can relieve it.
Also, sleep on your side with your knees drawn up a little. Sleeping on your back can make it worse, definitely not on your stomach either.
I hope this helps. I'll be praying you get some relief.
(((HUGS)))!

Saundra, I had similar pain but not from my sciatica. I found heat felt good but actually made it worse afterwards. Have you tried any icyheat patches or anything? Have you told your Dr about it as it may be a type of neuropathy and not sciatic nerve? There are things you can take that help the neuropathy. Nothing worse than having to deal with pain ongoing. Hopefully you have already found relief. Thinking of you and saying a prayer. Bonnie0

Thanks, Bonnie. I see the doctor today before my chemo and that is on my list of topics, for sure. It may be the neuropathy.BonnieR said:Saundra, I had similar pain but not from my sciatica.
