Had a Scare

Hi all,

Over the weekend I had extreme abdominal pain. Went to Urgent Care yesterday morning where they stuck, poked, prodded, and CT scanned me. They were looking to distinguish between kindey stone and blockage of the colon primarily at the site of the enastomosis. Fortunately (I guess) it is a kindey stone. The alternative would have ment surgery so I guess I'm lucky. The pain from the stone trying to pass is quite intense, usually worse at night (11 on a scale of 1-10).

At least they were able to tell me there was no change to my CT scan from the prior one. Now I guess I'll have to deal with the pain till it passes.

    Funny how your perspective on things changes post-cancer... Fortunately just a kidney stone.

    Hoping you get that bugger out of there ASAP and glad it's "just" a kidney stone, Howard.

    Hi Howard,
    I do sympathise , I passed three last year all of the uric acid variety with lovely sharp crystalline points. It seems to go hand in hand with the ca treatment. Watch out for gallstones and pancreatitis they also seem common. Gives the doc's plenty of ammo to scare the living daylights out of you. IE kidney stones ,docs first choice ,bladder cancer. Pancreatitis,first choice pancreatic cancer. Gallstones ,first choice ,mets to the liver. I'm glad it is not ca but I wish it was not kidney stones they HURT. Good luck Ron.

    OH, Howard, glad that's all it is...

    My beau (the OB/GYN) had one....described it as what it must be like in labor. I told him "So, from now on, you should remember that with your patients!" (That, and he took vitamin B6 for something....had a hot flash)...lol.

    PS I have had 6 obstructions, only one of which I needed surgery for....yeah, they hurt, too....water and walking and waiting...the 3 W's!

    Glad it was not CA and "only" a kidney stone. Like the other said your perceptions do change. I'm hoping they are giving you something for the pain at least so you can sleep at night. How long did they say it might take to pass them? I had gall stones when young so I'm sure the kidney stone is even more painful.

    Sorry about your kidney stone. It can be so much trouble, not to mention the intense pain, to have something like that.
