TWO WEEKS FROM SUNDAY
Sorry to have been AWOL again. I seem to be doing that a lot lately but I am just so wrapped around the axle of transfer, promotion, cross-country move, and wedding plans. Katie (USAKat) was here last week to hostess my promotion party with me and meet my friends and some of my family. I posted a couple of photos on my expressions spot if you're interested.
Oh, the subject line? It's a reference to the nuptuals - Sunday, May 6th (Katie pointed out that it's easy to remember: 5-6-7. I asked if we could schedule the ceremony for 12:34 pm) - two weeks from this coming Sunday! I wish you could all be there with us, but we have to keep it small, just family. When you get to be our age, mom and dad don't foot the bill for the wedding anymore! I promise we'll drink a toast "To Absent Friends" (no,that isn't a reference to the RHPS - if you don't know what RHPS means, don't worry about it - it's a reference to a traditional British Navy toast)
Cheers! Hope to see everyone in Nash-vull

Well... With all the naked dancing you do, i had to tell her something so she wouldn't think I'm carrying-on with a stripper from Rancho Cucamunga... Hopefully she'll never realize that you're a couple years older than I - I'll just tell her you've lived a "hard life"!KathiM said:Aw, dad....

Hugs, your loving daughter....
(btw have you told Katie yet that I'm your daughter????)
I'll be thinking big thoughts for you both....
Hugs, Kathi
Love ya!

Hey SB and Katie...CONGRATULATIONS on the upcoming wedding! Best wishes to you both! My anniversary is 4/5, but many years ago...wishing you both many years of happiness together. I love that fact that your initial connection was through this blasted disease....take that, cancer!....
Enjoy your day, enjoy your lives together. I'll be raising my glass here, too.

Thanks, Bud - I really appreciate your kind blessings. I hope I can steer the ship, too! It's been a couple of years, and Ron says that stuff about riding a bike is bunk - hopefully it doesn't apply to driving a ship!nanuk said:Yep, all this has definitely affected your brain cells..being promoted and getting married, etc. was just too much to wrap your head around. I just hope you can steer your ship when you get it. Blessings, Congratulations, and peace to all concerned. Bud
See you at the Opry?0 -
Thanks, Ron -ron50 said:Hi SB,
You know what they say about riding a bike, well it's all garbage,I tried the other day and nearly killed myself. My best wishes to you both for a long ,happy and healthy life togeather. May all your injuries be interesting........Ron.
I sure hope the riding a bike thing doesn't apply to driving a ship! Ya get a bit more than a skinned knee if you crash one of those!!
Hope you are out of the body cast soon (remember, people our age shouldn't consume alcohol before attempting to ride a tricycle!) BTW, did you get an photos before you crashedand burned?
Cheers!

Thanks for the note - happy belated anniversary! Yep, the cancer road brought us together; like that Rascal Flats song says; God Bless the Broken Road!
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers as you sit in the "waiting room" - but I know all will be OK!

Thanks, Howard! Nope, not an Admiral - I'll probably never make that grade (can you believe I'm not politically correct enough?) - I'm a lowly Commander (same as a Lieutenant Colonel).HowardJ said:Hi SB,
Wow, you do have a lot going on! All good it sounds. Promotion too? Are you now Admiral SpongeBob?
All the best...Congratulations!!

Be well - see you at the Opry in September?0 -

I was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I visited ALL of the Lesser Antilles from Trinidad up to Anguilla. St. Maarten is a GREAT island. Half of it is Dutch and half of it is French. The Dutch capitol is Phillipsburg and the French capitol is Marigot. I am guessing that you will be visiting the Dutch side based on how you spelled "Maarten" - the French spell it "Martin". Much better cruise shipaccomodations on the Dutch side.
In Phillipsburg you can buy Delftware dirt cheap and over on the French side you can get French wine and parfum quite inexpensively. There is regular taxi service to the French side - it's about $10US - the local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar and it's a 1:1 exchange with the greenback.
While in Phillipsburg, be sure to stop into Bobby's Marina Bar for a cold one and tell them I said hi. They may remember me, I actually took my 110 foot patrol boat in there and tied up at the marina pier several years ago (I had anywhere between a foot and six inches under my keel as I drove the ship in - talk about the career diminishment light being on bright and steady!).
If you get a wild hair, you should go over to the French side and visit Orient Beach (suit is optional, for that matter ALL clothes are optional there) - the local attire aside, it's a beautiful beach (and only the east end is all clothing optional... not that I've been there... a guy I know told me about it... yeah, that's right...)
If you want any more scoop on any of the other islands you might be visiting, drop me a note and let me know - I'm better than any Fedor's Guide - they don't tell you where the sailors go!
Cheers
