MY CA125 IS RISING ALSO

Seems like many of us are dealing with this right now.

Just to recap: I had levels of 10 all through chemo, went down to 9 after chemo, last month up to 12, this week up to 13. Pain? A little in the area where I had OVCA before (lower right pelvic area), even though pain was never indicative for me. It's always been the blood level results.

So, I've scheduled my CT for next Thursday. I will call the doctor to get results, as he is going out of town February 2 and not returning till February 23. I DEFINITELY need to know what's up before he leaves.

I know that no one can say what's going on right now. I guess I'm back to that feeling of gloom again. Well, not much I can do except wait it out. Just wanted to let all of you know.

My arms are wide open for lots of hugs today!

    There must be something in the air. My CA just spiked to 33 from 17 in December, so I too, have a ct scheduled for next Thurs. Not sure about the next step, probably topotecan. One dose of Doxil really helped me but the allergic reaction was too much. Do you know what you will do? Gloom, yeah, that's one way to put it. A big, heartfelt hug to you this morning. Paula2

    What we do will depend much on what this is all about - another mass, or what's going on. What sort of side affects did you have with the Doxil? Was that chemo or oral? I was thinking of asking my doctor (again, depending on what's up) if there isn't a pill or something I can take daily or weekly or whatever or stave off recurrances. Anyway, right now I guess that's all a moot point. And this all comes on the heals of national news that cancer deaths have dropped dramatically in the last two years. I'm so glad to hear that, but you'd never know it after hearing of so much this past year.

    Although your CA125 is rising, I hope you'll focus on how you are really feeling, rather than the numbers. It's really easy to make things a lot worse with anxiety. I've done it a lot.

    Almost all of the women with OVCA that I see regularly have counts that are sky-high; we're amazed, but it's proof that the numbers aren't everything!

    I agree with you - I would normally not focus too much on numbers. Unfortunately, I have been having some pain that won't go away. So, naturally I'm connecting the dots. Nonetheless, I'm trying to hang in there and NOT assume the worst.
    I'm so grateful this forum is here to connect with so many wonderful people.

    That is a huge hug coming your way along with prayers. I understand this being a stressful time for you. I am glad they are doing a ctscan so you know what is or isn't going on. Sometimes we worry with each pain and then to have a bump in numbers can cause us to focus there even more. I pray it is nothing and will be watching for your update after your Dr visit.

    Mopar, I am sorry to hear about your rising ca-125, and I will be praying that it's not a symptom of something worse. Hang in there...smiles and (((hugz))..floridajo

    I'm another one with a rising ca125, except mine is in the triple digits. I'm into my 5th year of dealing w/ov ca and am finding it progressively harder to stay positive in light of rising numbers. Numbers aren't everything; I am grateful for my quality of life despite what I've been through.
    We are surrounded by angels and loved ones who will help us draw on the strength & determination to continue to do battle.
    Lots of hugs and healing coming your way.

    The cancer that the ct turned up 2 yrs ago was on and in the liver. The second recurrance of cancer on the liver was just 3 small spots but it was also in the pelvic area. The Doxil may have knocked it out with just one dose, or it could have been the Aromasin I started at the same time. (an anti-estrogen pill) The Doxil was iv administered and would have been every 3 weeks. I didn't know to avoid heat, took a hot bath, and blistered all over, then itched for 2 weeks. I will probably try a half dose of Doxil and mind the warnings, for this new recurrance. It is known to work for o.c. and you can take it indefinately. Topotecan is the other one my doc will try, but I don't want a weekly iv, so will probably try the Doxil again.
    All the best to you, hang in there! Wait for the ct and then you can make a plan. There's still something called Gemzar, I havn't explored. Also, ask if you should try an anti-estrogen.

    I read your reply to mopor about the rising ca125. You said you have been dealing with ov for 5 years. Have you been remission all this time or have you had reoccurences. How long between occurences. I was in remission for 9 months and my oc has reoccurred. I have one regiment of a combination of topopecan and carboplatin. I am really concerned about my cancer returning. Would appreciate any input of what to expect. My ca125 does not reflect any return of cancer. My ca was in the hundreds when I was first diagnosed with ov. After three treatments of chemo during my first round of chemo it has been between 9 to 13. It is my understanding that lots of things can influence a ca125 to go up and down a few points I had an infected tooth and it caused my ca125 to up to 18. I have been told a ca125 lower than 30 is normal. However, in my case the ca125 doesn't pick up the cancer. I undergo ct scans every two or three months.
