How long to heal from Liver resection

Hi all,

I was wondering how long it took to completely heal from liver resection. Mine was done almost exactly a year ago. My scars are still a little sensitive and I have always felt some weird dull pains in the liver area. Anyone else experience this?

I'm actually getting seeing Oncologist today for check-up and I will of course ask him again about it. He kind of just pokes at me a little and isn't concerned. I'm not really either....well maybe a tiny bit...not really that its cancer, but just wondering how my liver is doing after having such a trauma to it. (by the way the tumor they removed from my liver wasn't colon cancer by a benign adenoma)

Thanks!
Maria

    Hi Maria,
I have had the same experience as you with the sensitivity and dull pain along incision line, I was in remission for 13months after my first liver surgery and I still felt it at that time of course now I am post second resection, the sensitivity and dull ache are still there but thankfully no worse than after the first surgery. I am not sure if that will ever go away. I dont know if u were cut diagonally or not but I'm thinking that has something to do with it. Take care .

My port scar is still sore and I asked MD about it. He said that some scars do what is called roping and really do hurt. This can be removed, can't be fun. My other scars healed without a problem (a year August '06), however the port was removed by a different doctor. Amazing how a one inch scar can hurt worse than the one that is more like 8 inches. ??? jams

Forgot to tell you that I had half of my liver removed and the surgeon said it would only take 8 to 10 weeks to grow back. Amazing! jams

Yep... the liver is an amazing organ. Once partially removed, the remainder will replicate and replace what was removed. :) jana

My liver resection was on 8/28 last year ... seems so long ago now that I think about it ... and I still have a bit of numbness (but not any pain) below the incision. Also, there is still a lump under the skin, just above the incision site, that I can only feel while I am standing up. I've mentioned both to my doctors, and they don't seem concerned.

A few days ago, I felt a sharp pain in my incision area, but it went away after a few minutes. I was chasing a dog in the backyard at the time, so I wonder if exercise might cause pains.
