Hi All,

Well as you know, my mom had quit taking her Avastin treatments 3 weeks ago in order to have the surgery that will remove her left adrenal gland, which in turn, if all goes well, will make my mom NED!!! So, imagine my surprise when we went to see her onc and do routine blood work, and they say we are doing another avastin treatment. It seems my mom's onc forgot to set up our appointments with the other onc and surgeon who will be doing the surgery. So, we had to start avastin again and now wait another six weeks before surgery. We were already half way there(3 wks off avastin) and thought we would be doing surgery in another three weeks. Very frustrating!!! From now on I will follow up and make sure that they have made our appointments. Anyhow, my mom will be having a PET scan on January 30th, and if there has been no further spread, she will be having surgery 3 weeks after that. She has had a stiff neck since my son's graduation which was Dec 15th. Onc said we will wait and see what the PET scan shows. I HATE the waiting. Also, her blood work was a little off this week. Please keep her in your prayers. A set back would be devastating for her right now.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers-

God bless-

Valerie

    Val -

A stiff neck? Have you talked to her doc about that specifically? My concern would be a possible clot from her port - especially if it hasn't been used lately. I would follow up soonest on that!

As to the surgery issue... UGH. It's so hard to have to do someone else's job for them isn't it? Especially when they're making such good money! Good on ya to keep on them and follow-up like a mother hen. Tell you mom to hang tough - she can't go wrong with you in her court!

    Cheers

yes, we have mentioned the stiff neck on the last two visits. Onc just says we will wait and see what the PET scan shows, but that is not until the 30th of this month. Her port was just used. They got good blood return and flushed with heprin(sp) So, does this mean it is not a clot???

I feel more like a piranha than a mother hen, but what ever works. The appointment thing is so frustrating. I know they are busy and have many people to see, but come on......

Anyhow, Happy New Year, and I still feel bad about the X-mas card....sigh.

Yeah... I just carefully placed the Christmas cards I got this year (all 4 of them) carefully into the vacuum-sealed, temprature- and humidity-controlled storage vessel last night. That way I can take them out and cherish them whenever I feel blue - you know... like when I reflect on the "friends" who don't send me cards... (sniff)

HA! just kidding, I pitched them (well, except for one). No biggie! Just giving you a hard time.

Anyway, I would ask the doc point blank about the possibility of a clot - that way the onus is on him/her. And, then again, what did Freud say? Sometimes a stiff neck is just a stiff neck (or something like that).

    Best regards
