Hi, first time signing in. I have so many questions that I don't now were to begin. For the brief version,I had a lump on my left side of my neck that was removed two weeks ago yesterday.It was diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma.I had a P.E.T. scan done yesterday and it came up clean. My surgeon scheduled me to have my left tonsil removed and to have mini biopsies done to the base on the tongue,in hopes of finding were it all started. My treatment from what I gathered today is going to be radiation and chemo everyday with spending four days in the hospital every three weeks while recieving the chemo.All the posts I have been reading so far, has treatment as out patient chemo and radiation.Anyone in the same boat? Sorry for the long rambling.Thanks for the ear

    Vinny, lots of people have been or are in your boat...but they wouldn't know to reply because they do not know your question.

    I am not the one to answer your question. I had neck and tongue cancer, and went through some stuff...but never had to stay in the hospital for rads/chemo.

    I don't know why that would worry you, though.

    When they showed me that I would be wearing a mask, bolted down to a table, for rads, I actually suggested they keep me overnight (for seven weeks :)) so they could drug me before doing it.

    They only do that for youngsters, apparently, so I had to overcome my fear and phobia.

    But I would have prefered to have been in the hospital myself.

    thanks so much for the response, I guess the reason for the question is that everything that I have seen on line did not have a hospital stay, but your right its better to be safe then sorry,thanks again for the response! it means alot

    Best wishes, my friend. My thoughts are with you. I have been through some of what you are going through, and it is not always pleasant, but please remember that they are trying to do their best for you while causing the least amount of pain.

    Beyond that, my friend, a big dose of humor helps you AND all of those around you.

    Hello vinney59, i had 8 weeks of radiation and 3 sessions of chemo. For my radiation I was outpatient, but for my chemo they did admit me overnight. They first talked of keeping me for 2 days but usually I was out the next day. I know our situations are different but they will do what is best for you. Just trust in that. Keep your spirits up and laugh. That is the best medicine. Take care and God Bless and if u have anymore questions feel free to ask.

    My husband was diagnosed with cancer in the same area that also spread to his nodes. He just had his second round of chemo this week but he gets two medications (cisplatinum and taxotere) in the office and takes one (5FU) home with a portable IV pump for 4 days. That has enabled him to get the chemo without being admitted into the hospital for four days. He also has a three week chemo schedule so it sounds pretty similar to your plan. You might want to check w/your oncologist about the portable pump - it has worked out great for us so far. Good luck to you!
