Hi everyone. It has been a long journey for me, as it has been for everyone but I finaly get another PET scan on Tuesday to see if I am finaly in remission! My CEA last month was at 8, down from 19 so my doctor expects it to be within normal range when I do my scan. I am so anxious about the results of the scan I dont know how you all have gotten through it. I will be waiting on the edge of my chair. I am too afraid to hope for remission but I want it so bad. Any tips that got you through the waiting period?

Hi tennis lover, Unfortunately I don't have any tip to give you, because I had recently a cat scan, and I was like you, the only thing I did was pray and pray and pray, thank God the result were fine. but anyway I wanted to send you my strongest positive thoughts for a clear scan, you need to be healthy for your young children and you will.Lots of hugs and prayers for you.

Distraction. I did a spa day that made a huge difference. Breathe. Realize that this is normal...look back thru the posts....mine, included...I was lucky (or smart...sigh) and VOICED my nervousness...they gave me the results the next day, thru my wonderful (can't say enough about him) primary care physician.

    Hugs, Kathi

(I am waiting to remove my clothes and do my special dance for you....don't keep US waiting, either!!! rofl)

    Hi,
Well I wish you the best of luck... I know what it feels like to wait.. as do we all. I remember when my onc told me.. you are in remission.. I think it was one of the best things I ever heard.. That was in April of 2004 for me.. and I have been dancing with NED ever since also. So .. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and say a prayer. Let us know how everything turns out.

I am wishing you the best. It is hideous waiting for test results - I am "sick" every time. I wish I knew some way for you to not stress, but I don't think it is possible. Do you know when you will get your results? (That at least bounds the worry.) I have developed a really good relationship with my PET scan technician - he basically tells me that my scan is clean without using those specific words. The CT scan guy of course does not (gotta be an art to read those things). So when Luis (PET tech) tells me "yet another great scan", I feel really good, but then the nerves build up again - cuz until the doc tells me, I am ever so unsure.

Wishing you the best on Tuesday. And if not NED, then maybe "almost NED" (there is such a thing, but let's not think about that now.)

    Best wishes,
    Betsy

The waiting is the absolute worst. The only thing that works for me is to keep busy and spend time with people. I try to plan things that get me out of the house and keep me distracted.

The waiting is so very hard. We will all be thinking of you and praying for you and keeping all our digits crossed for you. Please let us know when you get your results. I agree with others that distraction can help. I also try to repeat certain 'mantras' (most of which I have learned from this board! Sorry if I don't remember the original sources....). My favorite is FEED THE FAITH, STARVE THE FEAR. I literally try to banish negative thoughts and only allow myself positive ones, during the waiting period. And the other day, someone posted this one, from Benjamin Franklin: "Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may nver happen. Keep in the sunlight". I carry it around with me and read it over and over. So, keep in the sunlight!!

I like Kathi's idea of a spa day. Distraction. Keep busy. But really, I guess it just comes down to you do what you gotta do.
I'm with S.B. Fingers, toes, eyes, legs (makes it tough to walk around), arms...they are all crossed for you!

    Hello Heather
Yes, distraction. Maybe do extra things with the kids, if you find it difficult ot get "you" time. I will be sending you positve, strong good feelings. Best of luck!

I went through a stress management class and was told that I needed to examine my fear of cancer returning, I'm stage4 and NED, often. Take each part of it, the steps of the CT scan and anything else I was anxious about, and examine it throughly. I thought at the time that I really didn't want to do that. I like putting stressful things on a shelf and forgetting about them. Well, I tried it. I took the box labeled "cancer" down from the shelf and went through it carefully. I didn't know what to do with the stuff I found in the box so I put it back in the box and put it back on the shelf. I was still stressed out! So I tried this over and over and I'm still doing it. You know, I think it does help. At least when I go through a CT scan I don't get quite as stressed because it is familiar. It will just be one more thing to put in my box of memories.
You will be in my prayers. jams

    Heather,
The waiting is always the hardest. I find that exercise helps. But also talk to your doctor about expediting the report. The scans are usually read the same day (if done in the morning or early afternoon) or the next day. The transcription time may vary but once it is actually read they could give your doctor a preliminary result.

Praying for a negative scan. ****

Hi, I just wanted to add my good vibes to the list. I try to keep busy so the days go faster. In my "down" time is when I start to worry again. Like the others, everything is crossed. We all must look like a very strange bunch. HUGS!
