Improved Colonoscopy Prep

Next Monday I will be having my first post-resection colonoscopy. My tumor was found during my first ever colonoscopy so you can understand why I'm a little concerned. My surgery was six months ago and I was diagnosed with Stage 1 colon cancer. This time the prep is a prescription laxative called Miralax to be mixed with 64 oz. of Gatorade, Gatorade Ice, Propel, or Crystal Light Lemonade. For the initial colonoscopy, I used the Gatorade Ice (wasn't offered Propel or Crystal Light). I could not taste or smell the Miralax; it just thickened the Gatorade slightly. It wasn't bad at all, other than sitting in the bathroom for hours. I'm expecting the same with the Crystal Light. I don't even want to think about the phospho-soda that I had before my surgery. This Miralax and Gatorade worked just as well as the phospho-soda and tasted a whole lot better. Keep my in your prayers Monday that the beast has not returned. Oh,yes, if you have an upcoming colonoscopy, ask about Miralax and Gatorade/Gatorade Ice/Propel/Crystal Light Lemondade. Joy

WOW! An alternative to Phosphosoda! SIGN ME UP!!! With all the pre-surgical testing, I had this prep 5 times in 2 months!!!! EWWWWWWW!!!!
I am sending best wishes for next Monday. My first post-resection one went without a hitch. Although I DID as my gastro if, considering I have 12 inches less colon, did I get a discount on the price!!!!!
Thanks for the tip. Although, unless something comes up, I won't need this prep till May, 07!!!!! I am planning on being NED from now on....

Hi Joy,
I understand how you feel. My tumor was found when I had my first colonoscopy ever. I just had a followup one in August because (suprise) they never got all the way around during my first one because of the tumor. I was very worried also. When I got in for the proceedure, I kept joking with the nurses and the doctor. He is the best. He did my surgery on my tumor so I asked to have him do the second colonoscopy since I'm so comfortable with him. Here are some HUGS and you will be fine.

Hi Joy:
Wow, that's the best news I've heard in a long time. Sign me up on Miralax. I have my first post surgery/chemo conlonoscopy coming up in Dec, so your post is very timely.
Don't worry yourself too much. Stage 1 nipped gives you pretty much a clean bill of health. My philosophy is that if there's something growing, than you're better off knowing it sooner than later. This thought just completely calms me down on scan/scope days. I was a stage II w/ 2 crazy large tumors.
Best of luck to you and one Miralax for me on the rocks!
Cheers,

Thanks for the tip. I have an appointment with my GI doc on Friday to schedule a colonsocopy for mid November or so - I'll ask him about this.

P.S. I think you are lucky you had the phospho-soda for your surgery. Bad as it is, I had to have the JUG of unflavored GOLYTELY (what a joke) for my surgery, and I am not sure I could voluntlarily drink that stuff again.
Good luck
