Still NED

Hi All -

I was so freaked out waiting that I couldn't even ask for good wishes regarding my latest PET and CT scans on Monday.

But, after 3 days of agony I got the results today and STILL NED. I can hear Kathi saying "naked happy dance". Mostly I am just relieved - trying to learn how to be truly happy! I was really stressed waiting for this one. Anyway, positive attitude from now on - next scans in January - so looking forward to a good Holiday season and thanking you for all the good vibes I know were there (even though I didn't dare ask for them).

I'm 13.5 months NED as far as scans can tell, so for Stage IV that is really good (I keep telling myself).

Thanks - hey exactly what kind of CT contrast reaction did you develop?

In my late June CT scan I developed a tiny dry cough about 2 minutes after the IV contrast went in - developed into a deep cough which rose over the next 2 days and then disappeared. I mentioned it to the radiologist when I scheduled my scans for this week and he thought it was probably nothing. But - DAMN - the same exact thing happened with my scan on Monday. My oncologist will talk with the radiologist before my next scans and I will probably take prednisone / benadryl right before the scans and see if that makes a difference. Clearly I wasn't close to shock or anything, but since it has happened two times in a row, it is a bit of concern now. Is this anything like what has occured with you?

Hi Betsy!!!!!!!

I had what they called a "typical minor allergic reaction". I broke out in a nasty itchy rash all over my upper torso and my legs itched too. I had welts all over my arms, chest, back. It all happened very quickly (within an hour). I Coming from a medically inclined family, I knew it was a reaction but my breathing was NOT effected and I knew that was good news. I had an hours drive home and the itching and welts got worse as I drove home. I was lucky I didn't wreck my car and hurt anyone someone else or myself as I stripped and scratched myself. I stopped at one of the gas station/convenience stores on the country road, got some Benedryl, took one and drove myself straight to my primary care doctor. I was alone and was worried that if I went back to the hospital they would not let me drive home and that was not an option, since I knew it wasn't that bad. I made it to my primary care doc (only 2 miles from my house), got a shot in the butt and told to take another Benedryl and was fine 90 minutes later. My primary care doc didn't want me driving, but apparently I was pretty convincing since I only lived 2 miles away and got home just fine. They called several times to check on me. It was an very interesting experience but given my cancer journey, it was a cake walk.

Good on yah Betsy!Great to hear you are doin well. One of the greatest gifts you can give everyone here is the news of being NED....especially for those at stage lV!
It seems like a few of us don't tolerate the CT contrast too well. I have had reactions that make me nauseus and with flu like symptoms each time. But the continuing results of NED are worth the discomfort!

I ended up with a reaction to the contrast stuff they use for MRI (you know, had to have my head examined....NORMAL BRAIN, btw). I grew short of breath, and the tech said "Just breathe a few deep breaths, it will pass'. And it did, but I think my body has had ENOUGH radiation for AWHILE!!!!
