Trying alternative therapies and eastern medicine after 4 months of uncontrollable colon spasms following takedown of a temporary ileostomy. (See previous posts on this subject on 8/30/06). Has anyone had any success dealing with this problem that doctors believe is the result of radiation to the colorectal area prior to cancer surgery.

I have the same problems after a full year. I thought I'd be back to normal after 4 weeks. Drinking lots of water, not eating chocolate, and taking limodal with a glass of wine for supper has helped control the spasms. They are improving and becoming less frequent. I've been told it can take a full 2 years or more.

Wow! A glass of wine actually helps???? That's counter to what they've told me -- stay away from alcohol. I've noticed a problem with chocolate as well (which happens to be one of my passions, unfortunately). They also told me I'd be back to normal after 4 weeks. Did you have a temp ostomy, and how long did you have it before the takedown. Did you, or do you, have trouble holding in the BM until you can get to a bathroom? When you say lots of water, how much are you actually drinking? Thanks much! Comforting to know someone out there is making progress.
