Husband StageIV Newbie

My husband Jim, age 65,was diagnosed with StageIV colon cancer 6/06.This all started 5/06 & he has had 2 surgeries. Right testicle was removed & a wk to the day lymnph nodes & 18" of colon.Blood test for testticular cancer had come back neg but showed on pet scan.Also had colonoscopy & that came back pre cancerous.Removed 27 lymnph nodes & 1 came back positive. When they looked at his colon they could tell it was cancer.He is on chemo treatment for 6mths. Goes every 2 wks and also has a port.The cancer went from the colon to the testicle & both surgeons & onc said this doesn't happen very often.We will fight this as I lost my father to colon cancer, my mother to bladder cancer & sister to breast cancer.I will not let this beast take my husband. I have been reading this post for over a month now & feel as I know all of you. I have learned so much with your questions & answers that the nurses we see for chemo think I'm pretty smart. Thanks to all of you.You are all just awesome.

    Man, have you had your colonoscopy and mammograms regularly? Your family history sounds a lot like mine!

    I love your fighting attitude! So it looks like the docs settled on a diagnosis for your husband of colon cancer that metastecized to the testicles. That is odd, still it is beatable! Keep the faith, Sue... Give your hubby a hug for me, too!

    Welcome to the club. Like we always say, sorry it has to be under these circumstances, but we're glad you're here. You know, being a caregiver is probably the toughest job in the world. My hat's off to you.

    It is odd to see CRC in the testes. There is a genetic syndrome, called Lynch Syndrome or HNPCC, in which CRC tends to occur in the digestive/urinary organs, the breasts in women, and in the reproductive organs. In fact, I read an article just today on a study that concluded that 1 in 5 women who have uterine cancer have Lynch Syndrome. Your own family history is significant - have you had the scope yet? If so - good for you!

    Hi Sue,

    You have definitely come to the right place. Yeah, that is pretty odd that it spread to his testicle, but at least they were able to get to it in time. This is beatable and your husband is so lucky to have someone like you by his side.

    I have colonoscopy every 2 yrs & mammograms every yr. Sorry to say my husbands last scope was in 99. He did go to the urologists 2yrs ago this mth as he felt a little lump in his testicle & was told it was inflamation & the doc gave him cipro for 2mths.That is in the past so we just have to look ahead to the future. Thanks for you hugs as I needed them today. Hubby is kinda down.

    You have come to a great place to find information and support. My husband was dx'd 6/05 with stage 4. Mets to the liver. The informaiton I find on this site helps me understand what the onc is discussing and the support of everyone here gets me through many rough times.

    I also understand your unwillingness to give up another family member to this monster. I, too, have lost many to varying forms of this disease. I feel the same as you. I have lost enough people to this disease. Please know that our payers are with both of you.

    Sue,

    My dad was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 colon cancer at age 76. He went through surgery and chemo and is still alive more than 5 years later. Hang in there....

    Sorry to hear about your hubby Sue but amazing things are happening to people who come here. So many great stories so don't despair. All very frightening we know but lots of support here for you and hubby. You have a difficult journey ahead gal...be strong and you will get thru this. Huggs from oz, Ross n Jen

    Attitude has a lot to do with recovery and it sounds as if you've got the right one! I hope your husbad is feeling strong too! You are both in my thoughts and prayers.
